Any affordable source of tritium accessories?

Preferably ebay/aliexpress?
Small vials and balls.

Thanks

Never used trits, so no idea what’s “affordable”, but fasttech has assloads of ’em.

I have purchased several from Fasttech and seem to be the same vials that was sold on the other light forum from a member years ago.
That use to be the only way to get a hold of these in the USA.
I waited until FT had the blackfriday 15% off code and purchased several different orders with free shipping. If you get 3 or more of one item it becomes a discounted bulk price and takes away the 15% code which isn’t as good as the 15%. So I just placed several orders not getting into the bulk price category. They do have some vials in a 5 pack that saved me a few orders.

Never researched it in depth to verify, but I believe tritium is the most expensive substance by weight (possibly after dark matter, but I consider that a bit too academic).

I found my DQG fairy and green tritium fob emitted small amounts of unknown, ionising radiation once I’d built a Geiger counter, so I stopped pocket carrying them.

I’ve had moderate success with a variety of glow powder/paint/plastic as keyfobs etc

Second only to inkjet printer ink.

Did you compare to any other household items? Nice find!

Well Hunter, if you’re willing to risk it :confounded: , here’s a link to a shop that may be priced as good as any. Doesn’t look like there’s a very competitive market for this stuff.

How much compared to background?

Take a container of No-Salt (KCl instead of NaCl), and it’ll ping away at about twice background or more. K naturally has unstable isotopes.

Tritium (3H) decays by beta emission, ie, electrons. Not too much fizz in that sody-pop, though.

Ah, acto Tritium - Wikipedia , beta particles from 3H only go through about 6mm of air, and won’t even penetrate the dead outermost layer of skin.

I wouldn’t worry too much.

Granite counter tops and bananas have more radiation

Thanks guys, Lightbringer, I am buying from FT for years now and I wasn’t aware they had traits, best price also :+1:
Ordered several in ice blue (I know that green are most effective but I do not like green color, I would go with purple but they are probably very weak).

Yeah, it’s pretty neat, it was a while ago now so figures are off the top of my head, with a mica window GM tube I was getting over double background, with a few sheets of paper between the trit and detector, I was getting about 50% above background.

I deliberately stated ionising radiation as I’m not sure what it is, I’ve seen a few internet guys suggest they’re Bremsstrahlung x-rays; a gamma scintillator barely registers the increase, so I still use tritium fobs, I just don’t carry them in my trouser pockets….

Unfortunately I can’t afford granite countertops, my parents place has them though, background is about 24-30 cpm and I’ve seen 120 cpm in the ‘hottest’ areas of the countertops
