Forum Etiquette

I've just emailed HKequipment re a faulty Xtar charger. It might help if I sent a link to this thread https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/4032 to show that it's not just me who has a problem with this, but I need to ask if it's ok to do so re BLF rules and etiquette etc. Probably wouldn't make any difference anyway; my hopes of a replacement aren't high, especially since it's not worth the postage or the hassle of sending the faulty one back.

I can't imagine there is any problem with referring someone to a web page. This is a public forum.

Well I would tell you to contact Serena about it, but she never responded to why my charger was a doing what it was doing. I think mine works ok, but I would have liked her to respond. On my first charger the original WP2 I could put a battery that could be topped off a bit and slightly not fully charged on the bay I believe on the plug in side to charge and it would show green as fully charged. I then could take that same battery and put it on the other charging bay and it would show red and charge.

You're right, of course. Posting in a public forum implies open consent to quote and forward to third parties etc, but legality and courtesy are two very different things so I like to check. Doubt very much if I'll get any response from HKE at all, but just possible they might decide to contact one or more of the members who've posted in the linked thread.

@ ILIKEFLASHLIGHTS: My model is the MKii, and the guy who emailed my order confirmation is called Stanley, but it probably won't make a difference and I'm not hopeful of a response. Reminds me of your thread https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/5055; trouble is that the Xtar is the better quality model, or supposed to be :\

Well, to be honest, it wouldn't have ever occurred to me to ask. So major kudos to you.:)

I'm obviously just some guy but, personally, I don't see a problem here. In fact, I have pointed a vendor to a BLF thread on one occasion myself because I don't like to go out of my way with a huge wall of text and pictures just to illustrate an issue, when I can just point to a clear-cut explanation and advise them that I'd be happy to address any question they may have.

In fact, I'd argue that it might be a courteous thing to do. That way, they have a chance to fix their mistake and go on the record as caring about customer service.

I've been in contact with Serena regarding my faulty WP2 mk2 that I bought through the deal on this forum. It took a day or two but he/she got back to me with some questions that I answered this morning. In my answer I included 2 links to this forum that discuss faults on this particular model.

I really hope they acknowledge there is a problem with the mk2 model, because it seams to me that it's a manufacturing error. I never before seen so many complaints about XTAR chargers.

@ Volk: I don't know Serena, I assume she's not with HKequipment? And yes, after all the good reviews I read about this charger it's doubly disappointing. HKE want me to return it to them for a replacement, but if they want me to pay shipping it won't be worth it.

Hopefully, as you bought yours through a BLF deal it should put you in a stronger position. Wish I'd got mine that way but I never heard about any deal or group buy. I'd be very interested to hear how you get on..

@ Oxy Moron: "In fact, I'd argue that it might be a courteous thing to do. That way, they have a chance to fix their mistake and go on the record as caring about customer service".

Agreed, but I was thinking re courtesy to the BLFers in the thread who might (just possibly) be contacted out the blue by HKE, and who might not be too happy about it.

Feel free, Lensman. Thanks a lot for asking! Hope it helps towards a resolution.

They do have a warranty period but like most things you have to return it.

The charger or the BLF threadLaughing?
