New Samsung 20S 18650 Cell

IMR has the new Samsung 18650 now. 30Amp 2000Mah.

I’d like to see HKJ test this. He has tested the Samsung 20R, and according to the comparator, it has almost the same performance as Sony VTC5, except lower capacity. If Samsung can get VTC5-like performance, or even VTC5A-like performance with this cell, it will be a winner, as far as I’m concerned. None of their higher capacity cells show good performance next to VTC5 in the comparator. This cell is a couple dollars cheaper than VTC5 as well.

toddcshoe, are you going to get some of these cells?

Illumn has them for less.

Seems like a battery designed for power tool battery packs.

More than likely the cell used by Vapcell here: Vapcell INR18650 2000mAh (Black) @ lygte-info.dk

Cheers ^:)

Yes, I think I will pick up a handful of them. I am not a super user of lights by any means but, I like doing run time test on different cells. Nothing scientific or anything. Turn light on, start timer, wait till LVP kicks in or cell gets too low. I do it for all modes on all my lights and have a handy list of what each light is capable of with different cells. Yeah, I know sounds strange. I don’t sleep well at night and am up till the wee hours so it gives me something to do.

Well, it would be nice if it is. That cell has actually better performance than the Sony VTC5A in spite that the VTC5A has more capacity! :open_mouth:

EDIT: Note that I’m talking about the comparator, and looking at the 20A and 30A curves.

Hey David , any opinion on Sony vtc5d? Is it better than Sony vtc5a?

VTC5D? Never heard of it! Where is it available from?

Illumn.com. They said prices will increase soon.

Imagine 4x of THOSE in a Q8 on Turbo! :smiling_imp:

Well , are those vtc5d good?

$9.99 now. Illumn said it will go up.

Mooch says so… then I believe they are!

Yeah, but VTC5A are only about a dollar cheaper last I looked. That’s what makes the Samsung cells so interesting for us budget folks. They’re MUCH cheaper!
