I’ve run the thorfire vg15 the last year and I’m pretty pleased with it, it can feel a bit bulky though. Would the Convoy S2+ be a upgrade? I recently bought a C8 from Simons convoy store and was really amazed at the great quality.
That’s a tough decision. I like both lights. I like the mode spacing of the VG15 vs the Convoy S2. I also think the VG15 has a bit better output. I do like the feel of the S2 in my hand better than the VG15 though. I do keep a S2+ on my nightstand with a lighted tail cap. Never have to turn on the light for a quick trip to the bathroom. Lighted tail cap acts as a great moon mode.
Still if I had to pick one I think I would have to go with the S2+. Solid light, very modifiable for just about anything you like, parts are readily available and easy to install. If I were going to upgrade any further than that I would get a BLF A6. Hard to beat for the money.
Who makes the BLF lights? are they affiliated with this forum?
Astrolux makes the A6 and Thorfire makes the Q8. The forum itself doesn’t make any money off of them as far as I am aware of. The little bit I do know of it is that a group of people got together to find a manufacturer that would make a light based on the specs that people on the forum wanted in a light. Once all the details were worked out the lights were built and offered to the group at a certain price. Like a huge group buy. Then the lights moved on to retail sales open to anyone anywhere.
Hope that answers your question. The Astrolux S1 is the same light as the BLF A6. So whichever one you can get cheaper you will be getting the same light. The Q8 made light by Thorfire with the same Q8 model identifier. So if you find a BLF Q8 or a Thorfire Q8, it’s the same light as well.
