Thanks to Olight, received their newly release i1R EOS flashlight for testing and review.

Interesting, when is this coming out?
Will it drain the battery down to nothing or is there some protection for the cell?
Asking because I love my little 10180 keychain light and would love to gift some but haven’t been able to find protected versions.
I’m aware it’s asking a lot from such a small light, can’t hurt to hope.
i1R is officially release today, 18th May 2018, so if it’s not available with your favorite local Olight shop now, it should be soon.
just received a feedback from Olight, neither i1R EOS battery nor the circuit board has protection for over-discharge, which confirms my earlier testing as the light will continue to run in sub-lumen mode for a couple of hours, no matter you start it in High or Low. The lowest I have drain it so far after 10+ discharge testing is down to 2.43V, don't do this to your unit as it's unhealthy for the battery, especially since the battery wasn't designed for user-replaceable.
hm ok so how do u not drain it that low then? i dont get it…

In my opinion a fenix light should over muggleproof features like lvp to have value over the known Chinese brands. Why should you now chose the olight/fenix if the other contenders like the jetbeam mini offer the same features and look much better.
when you notice the brightness drop significantly... e.g. your high mode appears to be less than 10 lumens, or the high mode cannot sustain more than a few seconds... it's time to recharge. Once you use it for a few weeks, you tend to get used to the recharging behavior, like our mobile.
It’s a nice little light, I had an I3Eos on my keyring for a year or so. Unfortunately without low voltage protection or battery replacement options, it does not seem like something that can be valued as more than a novelty. I won’t be buying one no matter how cheap. Pity.
I agree with you on the point of aesthetic and the LVP. I myself bought the Jetbeam entirely based on aesthetic and it comes with a nice gift box (a red heart-shape box) too.
However, given the choice and experience with similar lights, if I need to choose among Cooyoo Quantum, Jetbeam Mini-1, Fenix UC02/ss, and this Olight i1R EOS, I would most definitely go with Olight i1R EOS... and my reasoning is none other than:
- Price, it's almost 40-50% cheaper.
- I can use it with one hand easily. The twisting action is the smoothest too.
- It's the brightest among them all (tho not a very important point).
- As a gift to non-flashaholics, the non user-replaceable battery is actually a plus.
- No LVP means the light would not leave the user in the dark abruptly when LVP kicks-in. (tho I still agree with you on the importance of LVP if one can justify the cost)
So, I guess to each his own. Cheers mate.
honestly, I'm equally surprised to find out the battery is not user-replaceable when I received the sample. But later I realized that not having the battery replaceable has its merit too as I frequently "accidentally" unscrew the battery compartment on the Jetbeam Mini and the Cooyoo when I needed to recharge the light, this will never happened to i1R EOS. But I do get you.

I’m a nut for tiny lights and at $16.95 I had to go for one. To me, it looks nice. Most of its idiosyncrasies as listed above have no concerns to me as keychain lights are used intermittently and cell technology is so good now, the internal non replaceable cell should last a long, long time. Besides, I charge my lights every month or two whether they need it or not.
Just received mine. Very cool and oh so tiny light.
I hate greenish tints in beams and I do detect an ever so slight tinge of green in the Luxeon TX’s beam but it’s so faint, it doesn’t bother me. I would consider the beam leaning more towards NW than CW and I’m a CW fan boy.
All in all, I recommend it.
