Does a mod-friendly 2xAAA penlight exist?

My ideal penlight has a 3000K 80+CRI emitter, with max output >100 lumens, a simple UI and no strobe. Either 10440 or NiMH, doesn’t really matter. Since I haven’t been able to find that, I thought I would try an emitter swap. My first and only attempt was with the Nitecore MT06MD (perfect light except for the 5000K led), which I promptly destroyed. Turns out the driver and board are glued in place and impossible to remove, at least for me.

Any other ideas?

My experience with Sunwayman P02A (which is broken after 1-2 month usage) is that the pill was quite easy to extract but I find difficulty finding sub 10mm driver for this host.

That looks promising, thank you!

It is not exactly mod-friendly but there is a thread [!] to disassemble it: Hugsby XP-2.
The light is so cheap you can destroy a few trying.

Lumintop IYP365.
Around 12 bucks on Gearbest and easily swappable LED

The Sunwayman and Hugsby could work, but with that low price on that Lumintop, I couldn’t pass it up. I just ordered two of them in case I screw something up. Thank you, everyone!

I just tore apart my friend’s Duracell 60-012 daylight 2-AAA pen/work light and was surprised to see it has a nice little aluminum pill with an 11mm driver. The led leaves a little to be desired because that one stopped working but, with a quick filing or sanding to flatten the top it would fit up to a 12 mm mcpcb.

Nice tip, thanks!
