I've bought 1/2 a dozen flashlights for Christmas gifts which use AA or 14500 batteries.
I've never bought 14500's before as most of my flashlights use 18650 so I would like to ask for your recommendation. Where do you guys source out your 14500s? DX?, MF?, DD, KD, BIC? I'm looking for protected ones and that don't blow up since they are Christmas presents. Any particular model that is somewhat close to the stated capacity? ~900mAh or so
It may be too late to order these batteries, so I may just give them with AAs in them and supplement them with 14500s when I get them. Sorry just thinking out loud...
I received 2 pairs from DD are ok and fast ships, are ~750mah
avoid DX them have biblical times
but under xmas on last 20 days you have low chance to get something in time from china using regular airmail; better look on ebay who ship from usa or canada, tenergy have good quality/price ratio like trustfire flames
I have trustfire blue 14500's from DX that have been dead reliable and good capacity (45 minutes on an ITP sa1)..flames are probably better but are larger from what I hear..I got the blues because my C3 was a tight fit for anything else..got 6 of them and all 6 are still banging away..
yeah going off DX forums before BLF made me buy them..back before I actually cared about my C3 lol..they work great though the blue trusties..can't fault them..flames have my attention though on 16340's and 18650's..if I order any more 14500's they will be flames..
there certainly seems to be a circuit on the end, judging by the thickness of the section on the anode end, after the slight recess in the shrink wrap. there also seems to be something under the wrap connecting the ends.
I over charged one by mistake and it didn't cut off until way too high - meter read 5.1V after removing from charger.
the side says "the voltage of full charge and cut-off discharge is 4.2V and 2.75V."
I use a magnet to make them work well in my C3s, even though they're button top. Some say a magnet could short if you drop the light, but if I take a cell w/ magnet on it and bang it around the magnet stays put. If I drop the light it I check the battery...
I ordered them from DX, but who knows if you'd get the same thing, even if you ordered the same sku.
I checked the invoice, this is the item ordered - NOTE: the description says WITHOUT protection but the photos show WITH PCB
wouldn't be the first time they've sent something different than described - in fact, the description says without but the picture says with, so who knows. I'll test mine this weekend.
Protected Trustfire Flames from BIC if you want them in time for Christmas! Nothing but great shipping times from them in my experience and they are known for carrying genuine TF cells.
