DIY Lantern for my Q8.

All this talk of lanterns lately has been great. I have been meaning to get a few of the ones mentioned and am looking forward to the Q8 lantern. We spend a lot of time on our deck out back in the evening and don’t really have any effective lighting out there. Either too bright or candles and tiki torches that get blown out. Not to mention having to buy that nasty oil and buying more candles. Tried some of those cheaper solar lights, but I said cheaper, so I got what I paid for. Had this Orange thick plastic cup with a screw on lid in the cabinet nobody has used in a long time. So I got to sanding it down with some paper and then some emery blocks to get that frosted look. Took another smaller cup that fit over the Q8 and trimmed it to fit over the light by an inch or so, keeps the wind from blowing it off the top of the light, and cut out the end of the cup so as not to add any yellow to the tint and let the LED’s go through to the large cup on top. Just super glued it to the orange cup.

Works wonderfully. I’m sure just about any department store carries cups like those in probably a selection of colors. Cheap and easy and took 15 minutes.

I like the yellow :)

I like it. Lots of cool ideas there. I have a pretty good sized balloon. Thinking of stretching it around the head of the light and then sticking a needle valve in there and pumping it up with air just to see if it will hold air. Not sure if it will get a good seal around the light. Or if the pressure would just shoot the balloon off the light.
