TESLA MODEL S BATTERY TEARDOWN

that is insane
we need a step up the evolutionary battery ladder
tooooo many cells

Reminds me of a brick of firecrackers. Or M80s.
For those in fireworks restrictive areas, a brick is a giant collection of firecrackers that was somewhat shaped like a brick.

I was waiting for them to open up and be full of 18650’s.

Very cool, there’s a guy can’t remember the site edisonmotors I think he tears down Tesla packs and sells the cells inside. can’t help but notice that trailer needs to be reboarded and repainted. Since I paint trailers like that and board them for a living.

There is a link to their website. They sell the packs as well. Here is another one where he makes a “tesla” powerwall out of used 18650’s. It’s really cool!

room for newbies?

I know really? Wow. Sometimes it is better to just say nothing rather than be a thread crapper.

or say nothing else be slapped

Just imagine what the forum would be like with every thread having an obnoxious all-caps title, with a single youtube link to the same video everyone’s seen years ago, and no actual text in the post at all.

This isn’t facebook, please and thanks.

never mind, I’ll google it

I found it interesting, thanks for the link!

I definitely get the vibe that this forum is the less friendly of the two big english flashlight forums.

Thank you. Don’t let one poster give you a bad impression I have been posting here since 2011 and most are very supportive and helpful here but it only takes one bad apple.

I’ve always known that Tesla used arrays of 18650s and now 21700s in their cars, but I never knew it was that many…

It was really interesting to see them peel away the lid exposing all those banks of batteries.I had no idea that the battery was essentially the entire length of the undercarriages.

I see videos like that, then I look at the powerbanks on my desk and laugh. Vehicle battery packs are downright scary

The latest 100kWh (actually 98.4 kWh + 4 kWh buffer) pack of the Tesla S consists of 16 modules of 516 cells, in a 86p6s configuration, giving a total of 8,256 cells (though still size 18650).

i have 3 444 cell modules in use here.
sold the others.
btw the tray the pack is built in is a structural member of the car.
the pack i obtained had collision damage to 1 module.
guys at the salvage yard were afraid of it so i got it cheap.
funny i sold the scrap aluminum parts and about broke even.
its not fun to salvage cells from the damaged module though.
i figured out ways of getting it done .
the cells were 3100mah 10a panasonics.

I thought it was very cool and I appreciate it when members post stuff like this! :+1:

Thanks man!
