Suggested 1xAA and 1xAAA Lights With Rear Clicky Switch?

Considering getting a couple of flashlights.

Requirements -

Uses ONE AA battery/cell OR, ONE AAA battery/cell.

Must have rear clicky switch.

Must have at LEAST TWO brightness modes.

Must have very low brightness output option (moonlight?), to illuminate up to 1 or 2 meters away, no more than that.

Must NOT have strobe, SOS etc. I don't want nor need strobe etc!

Prefer smooth cylindrical shape light body.

Strong preference for (brightness) mode memory, so don't have to cycle though brightness levels each time light is switched back on.

One example of a possible light is the Niteye SE-A01.

Can anyone suggest suitable flashlights that meet the above requirements please?

Thanks!

Eagletac D25a, thrunite t10?

I see the niteeye has a low of 5lm, this can still be pretty bright. Both thrunite and Eagletac have a much lower moonlight mode, perfect for 1-2meter night sneaking.

The Thrunite Archer is a very nice light.

On the large side for a 1AA but solid and reliable with a good beam. Will take 14500 if you ever want to go that way in future.

The current model does have strobe but not in the everyday rotations. You need to deliberately long press the mode button to get strobe; otherwise it just cycles through the 4 brightness modes from Firefly of 0.1 lm to max of 200 lm. Has mode memory.

Sifirn SF14 meets most requirements, 3 nicely spread modes, no blinkies , moonlight might be a bit high though. No memory but only 3 modes, always starts in low, very user friendly rear clicky. Sofirn is definitely building a name for themselves on the forum recently.

Acebeam M10
Reylight Brass or Ti
Jaxman E3

One of the Thorfire models might qualify.

Those are a great combination of requirements. I can slot almost all of them in to my database to get a list of 19 possible lights here.

The Ultratac A5 is the most budget of options but the database doesn’t cover the smaller chinese brands so there are probably better deals. The Thrunite T10 is great but I wish it didn’t have mode memory.

How about the Lumintop Tool (AAA) or Tool AA (comes with both tail clicky and twisty option)? Not sure the low mode will suit you…

Thanks for all the suggestions (so far)!

Yes, the Niteye SE-A01 low setting is just a bit too bright for my requirements.

I'm also looking at the Tank007 PA01 which I've just come across.

I'll look in detail for all of the suggested lights and then compile a short list (if any) of suitable lights.

Thanks again!

I’m really liking the Massdrop AAA, I got a brass one and probably will go for the copper also.

Those are the Lumintop Tool that Patmurris suggested. Great light.

Yes they are made by lumintop, But the reason I linked them is because they come with a titanium button and electronic switch in the tail.
Much nicer option than the rubber covered switch light in my opinion.

Are the current Massdrop ones M - L - H or L - M - H?

I forgot to mention that for the original poster. Most Tools start in medium rather than low.

Edit: And damnit the blue Ti ones are up again…but about to end….grr sooo don’t need another Tool, but….

Mine, L-M-H always starts in low with the brass version.

Reylight makes the best AA flashlights out there. If you want cheaper, the Jaxman E3 nichia 219 is like a reylight without the shiny host for less than half the price.

Thanks for the additional suggestions!

I forgot to add a couple of extra requirements -

Must be (relatively) cheap; no more than about $25.
Must be small and lightweight. I don't usually EDC lights, but when I do carry a light it should be small and lightweight to fit
in shirt and pants pockets.

Mode memory is now a MUST. I don't like having to cycle through brightness settings each time when switching a light back on.

Here is the list of possible lights I've checked (so far) and the reason(s) for rejecting them -

Niteye SE-A01 1 x AAA; low brightness setting not low enough (throw ~ 8 m).

Eagletac D25A 1 x AA; relatively expensive, and moonlight mode only available under different group settings instead of being
always available.

Thrunite T10 1 x AA; the bare aluminum bezel seems out of place with respect to the rest of the light body! Don't like it at all!!

Zanflare F3 1 x AAA; low brightness not low enough (throw ~ 11 m).

Acebeam M10 1 x AA; low brightness not low enough (throw ~ 9 m).

Reylight (all/most models); too expensive, too bulky, too heavy.

Thrunite Archer 1A V3 1 x AA; has front/bezel switch for selecting modes. All functions should be by REAR switch only.

Sofirn SF14 1 x AA; no mode memory.

Jaxman E3 1 x AA; insufficient data to make a determination.

Thorfire PF03 1 x AAA; no mode memory.

Thorfire TG06S 1 x AA; no mode memory.

Lumintop Tool AAA 1 x AAA; no mode memory, and middle part of light body smaller than head and tail parts.

Lumintop Tool AA 1 x AA; no mode memory, and middle part of light body smaller than head and tail parts.

Lumintop ED15 1 x AA; a bit on the bulky side and low brightness not low enough (throw ~ 10 m).

Ultratac A5 1 x AAA; no mode memory.

Jetbeam SF-AA01 1 x AA; bit on the bulky side and low brightness not low enough (throw ~ m).

So at this stage there doesn't seem to be a suitable flashlight, based on my requirements!??

Strange that there are no other options.

D25a still seems to be your best choice. You will get used tot the mode goups and will forget the few dollars more. It is a realy nice build light, get the nichia if you can.

Enogear Stainless Steel AA light

How about the Foursevens Preon P1 being sold now by prometheus lights? It has several configs to choose from if you don’t need the other modes. And the moonlight mode is low enough at 1 lumen.

Config. 1: Max
Config. 2: Max - Strobe
Config. 3: Medium - High + Burst
Config. 4: Low - Med - High + Burst
Config. 5: High - Med - Low + Burst
Config. 6: Low - Med - High - Strobe - SOS - Beacon + Burst

I have some relative brightness comparisons of many AA flashlights here.

A sofirn SF14 might do the job, if you are up for a driver swap. The 3x or 4x 7135 convoy drivers with Biscotti might do the job for you — you can get two for ~$7(US).
