PSA: Sofirn SP32a v2 available in Black, Silver and "light gold" in their AliExpress shop

I haven’t seen it mentioned here, but I noticed that the Sofirn SP32a v2 is now available in Sofirn’s AE shop. Check the listings carefully, because one is much cheaper than the others.

Very curious to see how these perform. The pale gold looks very nice!

ordered silver and Champagne colour

will let u guys know when i get them

Cool. I’ve been waiting for this to appear before deciding on it, or an S2+, as my next light. The non-black options look good.

Aside from the obvious updates, I’m curious as to what’s changed with the reflector, as mentioned in another post.

I see 250 lumens have gone missing as well.

That pale gold looks gorgeous! I didn’t need another 1x 18650 light but I may have to buy this just for the color. Is it just a color change or did some internals change as well?

Amen!

I subscribe to that question.

@ eas,
Just ordered a champagne gold one, look forward to getting it.
Torn between that and the silver!
Noted in the pictures, seemed to have a grey version, but probably an underexposed silver one as shot with the black.
Shame.
Cheers,
S-L

The internals have changed. I think someone else may have posted a review. I think they may have done something about the ramping speed, added a battery indicator to the switch, and added thermal regulation. Beyond that, I don’t know.

I was interested in the silver, but didn’t really want to chance it without knowing how it compares to something like the silver Convoy S2+.

The changes, from the Father’s Day thread. Some are obvious, some aren’t.

The product listings also note “smarter and more stable,” along with a loss of 250 lumens in turbo mode (1300 vs 1550).

I’ve sought clarification on what some of the more nebulous items are, and will report back if I hear anything substantive.

I’m assuming that the changes in the driver are responsible for the different output levels, and will also incorporate the improved ramping speed already found in the later batches of the “1.0” model.

I was ready to order an S2+, but have decided to put it further down the queue, even if the v2.0 isn’t largely different, and performs similarly to the 1.0.

I’ve never been in love with the Convoy’s beam pattern in stock form, and the beamshots from ZozzV6’s helpful compilation only reinforce my preferences.

SP32A

S2+

The new colors helped seal the deal.

To be fair, a TIR isn't much more money and you can probably ask simon to replace it.

I agree that the S2+ isn't as attractive anymore, its got new colors but its not different, its just a nice older moddable light now. Its got nothing that special about it, its a bit big for a 18650 too now. The jaxman e2l is much better for a triple, and sofirn is making side switch flashlights with ramping for not that much more.

Got a black v2, was/am wowed, ordered 2 pale gold. Them’s keepers.

Ramping is nice, log not linear, so brightness changes more linearly to the eye. No more pause in the middle like the v1. It’s a bit on the slow side, not as fast as the Q8 but less painful than the TK18.

Doubleclick to turbo, whether in ramping or stepped mode. Awesome…

I’ll always like the S2+, but even if it came in rainbow pvd, with just the tail-clicky, it couldn’t compete with the v2. Sorry.

How many lights do you have lightbringer? I saw you in the SP10B thread and you keep getting more lights!

Do you have a favorite? Can you make a video or point to one showing the ramping speed?

You don’t wanna know.

For that matter, I don’t think I wanna know, either.

Most lights seem to have one or more things which just bug me. Could be something in the UI, it could be a greenish beam, whatever. My old standby EDC was a 1-mode simple on/off ’502b.

Right now I’m EDCing a UT20. No ramping, but hella bright, forward-clicky rear switch, side-switch for mode-changes and power-indicator, but perfectly fits the deep-carry clip from an S2+ (available at Fasttech). Some lardass sat on my holstered ’502 ripping the holster at the seam.

Also am pocket-carrying an SP10B. I’d rather firefly mode actually be moonlight (ie, a little brighter), but it’s still a nice easy carry with hella bright light from a 14500.

But I have plenty of lights I really like but don’t (or can’t) carry. Lots are special-purpose, like C8 throwers, or huge, like Q8s, L2s, or most 26650 lights, etc. Each has its purpose, but not for everyday carry.

No way to fix the exposure on my phone’s video that I know of (not that I played with it too much), but you’d probably just see the background getting darker than the light getting brighter.

Do you mod at all? Maybe you can flash the driver. I also have the UT20 and am testing it, but I don't know if I can stand the tint on the thing as an EDC, I like the holster that was included but it isn't quite 'there' for me since I can't go backwards on the brightness settings. Its a very nice light though and I would recommend it for sure as a first light, but maybe I just got too picky.

Its a little long too. I think if it had a flat tail (so it would be just be a physical lockout, a warmer tint, and a way to go backwards I would like it a lot more. I can be picky and complain about the side switch but its not a big deal.

Huh? Which (light’s) driver? I like the UT20’s and the v2’s. The v1 had the pause in the middle, but I just stick with stepped modes. I’m not about to hack’n’slash a driver unseen.

If I brick a cheapie 105C/105D driver, I can stick in a new one for 2bux or so, but not a light that has a proprietary driver.

Strangely, that’s one light that I like as-is, both the design and UI. The beam’s a bit fried-eggy, but not too bad. In practice (vs white-wall hunting) it’s not bad at all.

Ohhhh yeah, it comes with a holster… have it, but haven’t used it.

Ugh, I hate high→low modes. Even those lights like the original SP32/31(??) that had the l/m/h/m/l/m/h/… up’n’down steps, I tried getting used to it, but it just drove me buggy. I still need low→high, preferably with shortcuts to high/turbo if possible, so I can reset the light to lowest, and then be able to select lowest with a simple turn-on, else high/turbo with, say, a doubleclick.

I like it quite a bit, enough to get a 2nd one as a backup. My only concern is that it doesn’t get “too hot, too fast”, so it either doesn’t cook (lower max current) or the thermal path isn’t as good as it should be. My Folomov D4 gets hella hot in a very short time (and has high→low modes if yer interested), so I know it wicks away heat from the LED very well.

The feature which endears it to me as an EDC is the forward-clicky tailswitch. Lets me do a quick flash’n’dash when I need to, without annoying full-clicks, and without worrying about mode-changes, or doing the press’n’hold to turn it on and/or off.

So… reflector, charger, battery, tailswitch… yeah, it’s long for a reason. I don’t mind, though.

On July 3rd (two days ago) I received a sample SP32A V2 from Sofirn. I’m excited to test it, but was slightly saddened to see that it was the black one. I was really hoping for one of those good lookin silver/gold ones. Oh well - can’t complain about a free light! I’m anxious to put this one through it’s paces.

Can you compare the beams between v1 and v2 and notice any improvements?

I’ve been told that was the objective, but the differences may be small.

An S2+ is still on my list, but perhaps as a host first instead of a finished product.

Too busy dying of heat-stroke here to do much of anything, but yeah, that’s definitely on my to-do list.

I try to always keep my lights in their original boxes when not actively using them (also lets me be sure there’s no cell still inside), but all these Sofirn boxes are unlabeled, so I sometimes gotta grubble through a bunch of same-sized boxes before I find what I’m looking for.

I just played around with mine for a minute. The instructions with mine are for V1. Some things aren’t apparent without the correct instructions, so I’ll need to hunt those down.

I didn’t even look at any instructions (rarely do), and still managed to get ramping going, back to stepped, 2click for turbo, etc. Quite intuitive.
