Which drop-in? 1-mode SF L2i on 3xaaa

Im putting together an L2i for a friend who is a night armed guard and needs a light. He wants to be able to use regular batteries instead of having to get into l-ion right now. So I got an L2i but can’t figure out which 1-modeis p60 is best for aaa. I know 3xaaa can’t handle much current but im going to talk him into getting some eneloops to run the light. Any suggestions?

Solarforce low voltage drop in:

I ordered a 3-18v xpg r5 last night I figured would work alright, that way he could use 123s if he wants. Regarding the SF low voltage drop in, isn’t that voltage cutoff way too low for rechargeable batteries?

Is there a different light you guys would reccomend for someone who isn’t ready for full use of l-ions batts? Maybe a AA?

Solarforce L2r, takes 2 AA's...I have one with the three mode version of that drop in, I like it a lot.

I can’t find l2r’s…they aren’t made any more I believe

Possibly ebay, or maybe he'd like a Fenix E21...great light, forward clicky. I also recently got a minimag AA, it's better than I thought it would be, not a bad choice either.

after hearing all of the negative opinions on 3xAAA, i cancelled noth orders.

I did see someone post this in another thread, and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on it

xp-g r5 first link and r4 second, which is better?

2xAA should be better than 3xAAA, right?

Jetbeam BA20 or a similar Klarus might be a better choice overall.

I ordered this Romisen RC-N3 R5 for 2xAA

and this from Manafont for the Solarforce L2i w/ 3xaaa- Cree R5 Single Mode LED Drop-in Module (3-18V)...wish they showed current for this drop-in.

Guess i'll let him pick which he wants, lol, and i'll keep the other.

Hopefully the Romisen will be great, and i'll talk him into getting some Eneloops for it...and I can keep the L2i and put an 18650 in it :)

I have the Solarforce L2i and the L2r, both using the Solarforce 3 mode H-M-L XP-G R-5 drop-in. They work fine with the intended AA and AAA batteries. I believe Lighthound still has the L2r's in stock. I also have an L2i with the XR-E 1 mode drop in. The low voltage models on all. Max 4.2v.

Am I missing something here?...

the link you gave says "OUT OF STOCK" for the L2r...it's been discontinued for months

They were in stock. Sorry.
