I would be interested in knowing how much lower the power level is going to be. Are we talkin about 400 to 500 less lumen?

It would be really nice if they could have one tested before they go on sale.

Yep, I think that would be nice too. But it is often not so, my X1R from the gb that is on the way is not tested, and I have to await how the Convoy T2 will perform (not from gb, but also underway). Etc. What we will have to go from is that this light is hardly different from a very well tested light and that all changes from that lighy should be quite predictable (but you won’t know for sure).

That said, Barry promised to send me a Sofirn Q8 for the effort, maybe it will be here sooner than most will buy their lights and then I can do some testing.

(which also endangers my neutrality in respect to Sofirn Silly )

The Sofirn rep. is not right, the individual lights may vary but the XP-L Hi’s V3 bin should on average produce 12.5% less light than the XP-L HD’s V6 bin. Assuming that a BLF Q8 on average produces 5000 lumen (which is about correct) and if we assume the same voltage bin for the HD and Hi leds (which is unknown btw), the output is to be expected on average 4400 lumen. Even if you are very lucky with your leds all 4 being on the lowest end of the voltage bin and the highest end of the output bin, 5000 lumen is out of reach for a stock Sofirn Q8. You need spring-bypassing and such for that.

Yep. And since their forward voltage is higher than XP-L HDs, it’s going to be harder to reach higher brightness levels.

I’m definitely in for one now. I may even keep it as is, for a while.

Looking at that (not fully formed) beam shot, I’m struck by a thought: On the one hand, soda can lights are rather bulky. On the other hand, so is a medium-sized thrower, like a Convoy L2 (even in 1s configuration). This obviously isn’t going to have a beam like a single emitter thrower, but…

This non-political signature is not non-political.

Really interesting! Not in, sadly, because I don’t have the funds atm, but thanks a lot for offering AmazonDE!

It would be incredible if shipping through local Amazon warehouses were to become standard for groupbuys, as that would eliminate a lot of customs trouble.

I love all kinds of lights... storm lanterns, kosmos & matador lamps, gas lanterns, tallow lanterns, flashlights, lasers, tritium vials...

I’m glad you are at least getting a light from your hard work.

Are you afraid you will loose objectivity? Or is it your reputation you are worried about?

Just always tell the truth. Some folks might think I’m biased towards Lumintop because I help on their Group Buys, but I’m not. I’ll state the good points and the bad points on their products. For instance, the GT is a great light, but the company boss is screwing over about 10 people in the GT sale whose lights got damaged or lost in shipping. Shame on him. There’s no excuse for that.

As long as you keep it real and state the facts, people will know your not a “shill working for the man”. Big Smile

@JasonWW, the remark was intended a bit ironic.

No I’m not worried about objectivity or reputation, this is a hobby and it can only be a fun hobby if I stay brutally honest Big Smile
If I develop dependancies or other interests, the fun is over.

Some updates from Barry.

A beamshot, with the apologies from Barry that he could not get it really right, but he tried very hard. (still a bit too overexposed to really compare the beams, but it looks very much so that the right hotspot is tighter).

Some info about when the lights will be available:
“It’s cool for Sofirn to send code via BLF PM.
Yeah, we are supposed to send codes when if available on amazon. And aliexpress buyers can buy within a couple of days.
The group buy can be run for at least two weeks. We will see if it needs to be longer.”

A small disappointment for german buyers, I did not know this before, sorry, but it is also not that big of a deal I guess:
“It seems the price is not very clear. buy from Aliexpress is $40; buy from amazon US is $40; buy from amazon DE is €40 (I know people think it more expensive according to exchange rate but it caused by VAT, we are NOT able to make it as low as 35 euro )
If BLFers from Germany care the difference, they can choose buy from aliexpress.”

And a remark about the output of the Sofirn Q8:
“BLF Q8 is 5000+LM,Sofirn Q8 is just at 5000 Lumens line according to our machine.”
Let’s see what the BLF-machines say about that Wink
