Sofirn Q8 Pics n Beams

The postman delivered today, almost the very last delivery at around 4.25pm!

Can’t turn off thee standby light on Sofirn, the BLF clickon, clickoff, clickon works.

Getting 10% more lux with BLF compared to Sofirn doing rough ceiling bounce test. Even when I switch batteries and/or tubes. Does Sofirn Q8 have AR glass? BLF seems to have a slightly more purple tinge on moonlight. I did give the BLF Q8 an Isopropyl wipedown on the weekend and regreased with NO-OX-ID.

Sofirn Q8 is definately a lot throwier

which one do you recommend?

im looking to buy one but unclear the winner.

Sofirn

thanks

looks like sofirn throw much more

UI on sofirn same as BLF Q8?

So far. I’m not one for playing around much, or so I tell the mrs  , the standard stuff is the same - ramp, batt check/temp/ver, strobes, lockout,

I don’t think I’m the right person to ask - I have 2 of each, the best of both worlds. I love both throwers and warmer roughly 3D tints so hard to pick one over the other. I’ve been walking around the street and garden with one in each hand for the last hour and a bit and can’t decide…

Thank You.

More money to dish out

Great comparison pics thanks for posting.

I would like to convert my q8 to a helmet lamp for randonne downhill skiing. Basicly skiing uphill for 1-2 hours. Then rip of the skins and ski at full speed back down for 20 minutes. I currently use a DIY hack at about 4000 lumen. Which is pretty good. But the Q8 seems like the ideal light. It is Usually windy and below freezing so it will not be too warm. But it will be heavy on the head. So i want an external batterypack to be in jacket or backpack. Ideally someone should make an thing to convert the Q8 to a headlamp with external battery pack. Just a cap that screws into the ligh and a cap for the battery. With some really thick wires between.
Have someone else done this mod?
If not, i guess ill be the first to try…

If it were me, I’d worry that the added weight and leverage, even without the batteries, would make a neck injury more likely.

I wonder if something designed for bicycle use would be a better starting point. They are already fitted out for use with a battery pack, and there are multi-emitter reflector versions. Unfortunately, I don’t know which, if any, have decent thermal designs, but someone here must.

Look for some bicycle lights. They are usually separated in their 2 main pieces and each is sealed up. Most seem cheap, but surely there are some good quality ones out there.

Someone with both said the Sofirn Q8 had twice the lux of the BLF Q8. So it does throw farther. One uses xpl HD and one xpl HI.

The UI at the moment is exactly the same, NarsilM v1.0. 400 units have been produced. We are trying to get later producoon units made with the updated v1.2.

Nice to see the difference in both lights, i think i prefer how the q8 performs but everyone likes different i guess.

There’s a reviewer on BangGood who did exactly what you’re describing. His review is dated Feb 07, 2018 and is the second one when sorted by ‘top review.’

I think it’s a pretty nice looking setup! Click photos to enlarge.

The BLF Q8’s head weighs 9.1 ounces, or 256 grams. You could save some weight by cutting off the threaded part, but only if you’re going for a permanent modification.

YES YES
That is exactly what i want to do, thanks.
i just wish Sofirn or someone would make a proper cable and proper endcaps so the thing would be waterproof.
I’ll probably DIY something similar to that guy.
I love the UI and Q8 light in general. proper heatsink, good driver.
Not worried about the weight, its probably comparable to the heavily modified bikelight that i’m currently using.
I hava a 7 XML ? bikelight similar to the one a few posts higher up. the thermal design is crap. driver is so so. (its a constant in current driver, 2A 2S stock(16W) , modified it to run at 4A 4S (60W) !! it heats up really fast, but while skiing its good enough cooling).
It’s actually enough light for skiing,

Awesome! :+1:

I wonder how he is making sturdy power connections. I wish we could see the other side of his Gatorade cap.

Please share pics and details about your build, and good luck!

I think it is 3D-Printed

Do they differ in heat? Did the measurements?
