Wanted: American English proofreader aka copywriter

For my English flashlight website I'm looking for someone to help me with some text.

How it works:

  1. I will share a Google document with the text I've written
  2. Please proofread, and add / edit the content in the document so the text will be more appealing / convincing
  3. Let me know once its finished
  4. I will double check, and maybe ask to edit a little more
  5. I will send you some eneloops / a flashlight/ money

Who?

-Speaks American English

-Knows a bit about copywriting

-Is willing to help me Big Smile

If you want to help, just send me a PM. I maybe do different parts by different people Big Smile

I’d be willing to help you out ChibiM.

I consider myself good at proofreading since I was an English tutor in college, and I had to correct many copies during my last semester.

I know other people would be willing to help too, so good luck ChibiM!

You’re doing well so far. I see you didn’t make the mistake of using “alot” Facepalm

Sounds like BlueSwordM has the qualifications for the job.

I could help you with English (UK) English, but that might not be what you want.

Are you looking for just correction, or maybe some creative input as well ?

I was never good in English at school even though it was my native language, so I hereby disqualify myself from this most prestigious job, even though I love eneloops

ChibiM should be aware that there will be a lot of "eh's" added during BlueSwordM's proof readings

Guys, Canada is in North America, so if BlueSwordM is Canadian, then he is also American. Silly

I’m sure BlueSwordM will do the proofreading well enough. But, if you want a second opinion, I’ll be willing to look it over for you. I’m probably just a bit less qualified than BlueSwordM though. I’m about 9/10 for spelling (but if I take it slow, I can get 10/10) and about 8/10 for proper American English grammar. Big Smile

I do consider myself to be very good at picking the best words to convey tone and fit the context of what is being said. Sometimes, even words that are considered to be synonyms convey an ever-so-slightly different meaning depending on the context. One word might be a much better fit than another in a given phrase. This is often hard to get right in translating from one language to another, or writing in a language that you may be less familiar with. Wink

Reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it. Do not count on them. Leave them alone.

Yeah sorry guys. But, eh, I don’t really care that much. Sorry again.

On the topic of being fluent in a language, if you think you Americans are bad in English with the alots, your, needn’t, you should see some of my Quebecker friends Facepalm

I’ve had to correct some of my fellow students on an English essay, and had I not been there to “pre-correct” them, they would have probably failed their English course instantly, since they were on the verge of failing already, and would have to retake the course.

And yeah, I’d be glad for other people to correct my mistakes, if I do any. Hasn’t happened yet, but could.

Hahaha!

I forgot about the stereotype that Canadians apologize a lot.

By the way, if anyone catches a spelling or grammar error in my posts, I'll be glad to fix it as well.  :-)

And, yes, I know I make every sentence its own paragraph.

I think it looks better online.

I was just reading the new Amazon listings for the new Sofirn lights, thinking to myself, why don’t they just hire a proofreader? And then I see this thread. I’m glad you want to sound professional, ChibiM. These are not as bad as some, but for selling a product to an American audience on Amazon, they should be fixed. Here are some highlights.
“Take you worries away about the power”
“Four Light Groups and Longtime Lasting”
“What You Got:”
“With the remarkable UI, it can be played as a toy or just use it as a tool”
“We are all ears and aim to bring you satisfaction or surprise if you contact us.”

Just discovered this wonderful addiction.

Ok, I don't think my English is as bad as that, but I can totally understand that native speakers can be annoyed by spelling/grammar mistakes. But at the same time I feel like you are probably more used to it than other languages. Because there are so many people using English as their 2nd 3rd or 99th language.

I will admit that I also went over BlueSwordM’s post with a fine toothed comb. (Or is it “fine-toothed comb”?) Big Smile But he passed the test!

Although, ChibiM, if you’re Dutch, then you probably speak pretty much flawless English. All the Dutch that I know have truly amazing language skills, with a special knack for English.

Well, the phrase “was having too” implies that it was an on-going thing over time, whereas “I had to” only indicates that it happened (at least once). I think there’s a time and place for each. Then again, I DID say before that I’m prolly Evil just 8/10 for proper American English grammar.
