Your Fav Keyboard?

Mine is without peer……Microsoft Sidewinder X6 Keyboard Illuminated/Programmable Keys (discontinued) :rage:

Just added some insurance against phased obsolescence. Last week I insured my Logitech M570 mouse with a backup new unit as opposed their 4X priced replacement.

Today I found a reasonably priced X6 keyboard on eBay, located locally and in apparently VG condition (much better than mine) from a 100% seller. I can’t imagine losing all my programmed keys on the keypad and having to type all that info manually, (shudder) And being able to place it on either end of the keyboard is essential to my setup.

Keyboards eventually get dirty, and are basically disposable, so I get cheap ones.

My go-to has been the Microsoft Keyboard 200 6JH-00026 Wired, but it is no longer available for about $10, so I need to do some research.

EDIT:

Looks like it has been discontinued.

Hence my backup!

I need to get a new keyboard...

One of mine is getting pretty gross.

I'll probably get a highly-rated, but fairly inexpensive, white Microsoft wired keyboard.

Logitech G710+

If you had mechanical switches once, you don’t want to go back to rubberdomes - period.

I am using Corsair keyboard. Not really a gamer myself now, but i really like the professional look, feel of the keys, and RGB effects.

I like the old IBM Model M. It’s a big ol hulk of a 5 pound keyboard. I just pop it in the dishwasher when it gets too nasty. Been working great since the late 80’s or so.

I hate wires, so unless I’m using a laptop, I tend to use a Logitech Kwhatever trackpad+keyboard combo.

Typically buy ’em in bulk in case they go south (not yet, but…).

Regular keyboards, I usually hammer on ’em that someone with an adjoining desk complained about my “seismic activity” (ain’t kidding!), so I tend to go through regular keyboards pretty quickly.

The Logitechs seem to last pretty well.

Logitech K740 Illuminated Keyboard on my PC,

Logitech K380’s for my Macs

I have a few boards that I cycle through, but I’ve grown very fond of the 60% form-factor of my Poker II with Cherry MX Browns:

My other boards include a Corsair Vengeance K65 with Cherry MX Reds that I got on sale. Has a really nice look and is quite solid with the brushed metal plate:

An Acer 6311 with Alps clone switch over membranes in ISO format. Really not a fan of this because it’s full-size and too large for my needs, but it’s still fun to use occasionally:

And my most recent a custom UT47 40% keyboard with Kailh Box Navy Switches. I’d prefer the Jades which are the lighter switches, but these are the best clicky switches on the market currently:

I eventually want to get a 60% board with brown alps for my end game and that will be my main board for the next large portion of my life. Keyboards can easily last 20+ years, and mechanical switches are rated for such a long life that you’ll be hard pressed to reach it via “normal” use. A lot of people pick up boards from the early 90s like Apple Extended Keyboards, or Model Ms and mod them to be more robust or to accept being programmed.

Apple A1048. At the moment it is connected to a 2010 Mac Pro running Ubuntu 18.04.

I’m not a complete luddite. I use an almost modern wireless magic mouse.

Might post photos later.

Dell SK-8115.

Cheap black fake Apple lookalike small silent keyboard, wired of course.
This time it’s a knock off of the knock off, but it works very well.

$ 8.— or something.
(pic of wireless version, but it’s identical)

+1 for model M, i use mine too (from 1984) hands down the best keyboard ever made :sunglasses:

Unicomp makes newer buckling spring keyboards and they aren’t very expensive and use USB. Biggest problem with the old Model Ms is the cheap plastic rivets all end up breaking over time so you gotta replace them with bolts.

I don’t necessarily have a favorite keyboard but I do strongly prefer cherry MX blues.
Had a razer blackwidow ultimate with mx blues and a coolermaster quickfire tk with mx blues. Got both of them on sale, the razer developed the cherry mx stutter but haven’t tried cleaning it out yet.
Having tenkeyless is nice for the most part, the quickfire has a toggle that makes it livable.
Tried corsair k95 with mx speed, that would take a while to get used to. Haven’t tried a model m but always hear its praises.

Even cheap mechanical keyboards are better than domes.

Looks like I'm getting a Perixx 11280:

As much as I hate spending $25 on a keyboard, I hate low profile keyboards even more.

You can add me to the list of people with a spare keyboard and a spare trackball sitting on the shelf

Dell SK-8175 here, does the job.

The thing I always insist on is the US keyboard layout, because it puts the programming symbols in more convenient places. I grew up using the British layout, but after using US keyboards at university, I just couldn’t go back!

I do have a Logitech M570 wireless trackball, though. It’s comfortable, accurate and I like it a lot. It also stays in the same place on my desk, and that’s important to me because I’m legally blind. The last thing I need is stuff moving around.

Mind you, it still irritates me that Logitech stopped making the wired predecessor to the M570. I never, ever move my trackball around, so I’m paying 30% more for a feature I don’t need.

Microsoft comfort curve 2000 has been my work keyboard for years. Love it.

Gotta love some mechanical keyboards been into them for some years now built everything from ergodox -> 40% -> 60% been trying out a 75% which can be quite nice.

Really enjoying my Vortex Race 3 with Cherry MX Silvers. Usually like me some Gateron Reds but the silvers for FPS are really good and I have gotten use to the weight and early activation of them.
