Choosing a Modder

My friend recently had Lexel in Germany install a driver for a new flashlight. The flashlight stopped working a few days after my friend received it. Lexel asked him to try making a couple of repairs and said he would send him a replacement driver if the repairs didn’t work. They didn’t work, but now Lexel won’t send the replacement driver, and he won’t even respond to my friend’s messages. You might want to keep this in mind when choosing a modder.

well, sorry to hear this happened to your friend. But unfortunately technical products do break every once in a while. This does not have to be a modder’s fault. What kind of “warranty” would a modder have to give when this is just a personal business and not an enterprise?

Was the root fault ever diagnosed on this specific light?

Everything you say makes sense, but it’s not really the point given what the modder said. He said unequivocally that he would send a replacement driver if the suggested repairs did not work. He did not say he would replace it if there was proof that it was his fault. He did not say anything about there not being a warranty, or further diagnosis to get to the root cause. He said: try this, and if it doesn’t work, I will send a replacement driver — period. Now he’s not doing that. So at this point, it’s really about the modder following through on what he said he would do.

Well, from where I am standing, your friend should be glad he has a friend like you. Who takes the trouble to report on his friend’s bad luck and open up an account on BLF to tarnish the good name of member Lexel.
Just kidding.
Are you sure you (r friend) tried to contact Lexel through the right channels? Since you are a member now, try sending him a PM. Or maybe your friend could do so.

BTW, in Europe we do have holidays and weekends and so on. I am sure he will answer you, sooner or later.

I had Lexel make a special on of a kind driver for me.There were some extra parts that needed replacing and he would not take extra money for. I sent some extra $ to cover the loss anyway. My experience with Lexel is very good. I’m sure there is more to this experience that is not known.
Hear-say is almost always inaccurate.

I’ve had nothing but success with Lexel, I’m new here and a first time modder myself, and he has been extremely helpful.

Lexel is good and honest modder.
I have experience with Lexel.
I’m sure, he will resolve problem.

If you are here only for spit on Lexel, you are not welcome.
If you are here for learn,or to contribute to the community you are welcome.

Cheers

Bear in mind that Lexel had major surgery on his hand recently, due to an infected animal bite. Something may have come up in relation to that.

He’s a busy guy and sometimes takes a few days or weeks to reply.
If you bug him several times then maybe he will get annoyed.
Try waiting longer because he’s having some health problems recently.

Also, he is just a modder like the rest of us, not a company that provides warranty and 24/7 support, so maybe change your expectations a little.
.
PS- I have bought a $400 custom driver from him and it works great.

I am not in violation of any forum policy as far as I can see. I am simply stating facts about a negative experience, and by doing so, I’m trying to be helpful to others.

Maybe you should add more details like what light and driver it was, how it “stopped working”, how long since the last reply, did lexel actually say he was not sending a new driver or just hasn’t replied yet, etc etc etc
