Someone copied me :)

Just came across a video of an LED flashlight build that looks almost exactly like the optofire I made over a year ago

Original ^
Clone v

Everything is almost identical, the handle, the temperature and voltage meters, lens on the front, fan at the back, holes in the side for air exhaust…
Main difference is it’s designed for high lumens instead of designed for throw.
.
Just thought it was kinda cool, not mad or anything, chances are I inspired this person to build this and that’s great

Yeah, you know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! :crown:

I wonder if that person is a member here at BLF.

Maybe you also weren’t the first…

You provided an amazing recipe and the directions to build one. Bet there will be more copies. I think I have seen earlier similar concepts. One that jumps to mind was this wild build:

Those two flashlights were definitely an inspiration for my first project, the lightcanon.
I wanted to build one of those but with LED instead.

PVC pipes are great for DIY flashlights!
.
However this video I found has the placement of the handle and electronics almost identical to the optofire.
It’s basically the exact same design except different LED choice :stuck_out_tongue: That’s why I was so surprised to see it

You can also tell I have much more experience with cutting the PVC pipe to fit the components, you can thank all the cuts on my hands for that.

I also copying you but will never upload on any type of media… :innocent:

:+1:

Time to up your game. Maybe V2.0 for 2020?
