Dusk to dawn and\or motion LED bulbs

Just wondering if any of these bulbs work as advertised. I see lots of mixed reviews. Anyone here have any experience with any of them? Something like these Vgogfly Motion Sensor Light Bulb Dusk to Dawn

Don’t really want to replace are fixtures as we will probably be moving next year and I don’t want to put any work into the house that isn’t a requirement.

Fixtures are something like this:

Looks like the bulb in the fixture is surrounded by glass, and PIR detectors cannot see through glass. Unless you make modifications to your fixture, this bulb would probably not work very well.

I have a similar bulb that I am using in a hanging fixture above the front door entrance, and it works well. But visitors walk directly under the light, and the motion sensor has a clear view downwards and slightly off axis

FWIW, the motion detector is at the top of these bulbs which points downward when screwed into the fixture. The detection cone is about 90 degrees (45 degrees off the vertical axis). The precise activation distance, therefore, depends on the fixture height and line-of-sight of the sensor. Since it looks like your fixture is attached to a wall, your main problem is going to be line-of-sight.

Yes it is glass. Thanks, I see some reviewers are saying they work in glass fixture and some don’t. Maybe its detecting motion from the bottom then for them. The lights aren’t position where someone would really be walking under them.

I would be pleased with a dusk to dawn only bulb that works as advertised. Would those have an issue? I guess one with the sensor on the top of the bulb would work best there as well.

Rest assured that a passive infrared sensor (PIR) cannot see through glass, and the bulb you are looking at uses a PIR sensor.

I've had good luck with this dawn-to-dusk bulb in my lamp post for about a year. It uses only 7 watts of energy (equivalent to a 50 watt incandescent bulb) so it doesn't cost very much to run all night. I can recommend this solution.

Thanks for the info, I’ll stick with dusk to dawn and that’s on the short list.

Take care Skroober, and welcome aboard!
