Dahab from LA, CA! Happy Holidays to all! Quick question please.

Hello all. I have just learned of all of the online chat around EDC. For years I have not left the house without a Spyderco (police model, Centofante or Veile) or Benchmade (Pardue) and many of the provisions seen in "pocket dumps". Its like I found a tribe that speaks my secret language.

On the note of EDC, I never really knew that pocket torches existed. It was either a huge multi battery mag light, a mini mag, or a weapon system specific system from surefire for way too much money. I need a good pocket torch. Guys (and awesome Chinese girls who use the products they sell???)...what should I get? The tech you speak of is foreign to me. I found the following online shipped from Los Angeles.

Regular Price: $69.99

Special Price: $29.99

    • Ultrafire WF-502B Aluminum Flashlight Body with Clip

    • CREE XM-L T6 1000 Lumen LED

    • 5-mode Operation (High - 1000 lumen , Med - 400 lumen, Low - 40 lumen, Strobe, SOS)

    • Single On/Off switch with Mode Memory

    • Includes 1 x Rechargeable Lithium 18650 battery with Charger

  • *WARNING*: MUST USE 18650 Lithium Battery. CR123A will overheat and burn out the bulb.*

Should I grab this? I have $30 up to $50 (if it was an amazing $150 closeoutor something). I would like to keep it to around $30-$40 with batterys and all the works. Can I get something better? Throw the new guy a bone and give an opinion.

Welcome to BLF .

A couple questions to help you out. Do you plan on carrying it in a pocket or on a holster? Do you have a battery choice? Do you want modes low, medium and high or just on and off? How long would you like it to run? Do you want more flood or throw? Do you prefer a clicky switch or a twist on and off?

Answer these questions to get the ball rolling and we will dish out some ideas free of charge.

Yes, you need to figure out which battery you need and then get a flashlight that goes with it.

You can get very small single CR123 lights that are more powerful and last longer than a Maglite. Or you can get larger 18650/2xCR123 lights in the P60 style. Lots of cool budget stuff to choose from. See my sig for my personal recommendation...

I would like to carry it in the pocket. I like the idea of tactical features on the touch, but above all want it to be bright (I like the sound of 800 to 1000 lumens)! I would like to keep the battery aspect of my first strong light simple, but could be into some of these stable rechargeable batterys I have been reading about. By simple, I mean placing them in a wall charger at night, loading them in my flashlight in the morn, and not having to worry about them past that. I think I have been reading about batterys that the mnfr claims to be more powerful than they actually are? I know ballistics, not the tech elements of batterys (it is interesting though). Multi modes sounds good and I like clicky. Throw sound intense and good for my urban environment. How long do these things run for on a charge? Do they last as long as a four cell full size maglight (which is not very bright i may add). Last, a few days ago, when I stumbled upon BLF, I found a light on Amazon that said the suggested retail was $1000, now on sale for about $125. Whats the deal? I thank you guys for the suggestions in advance. Links to the specific items would be great (and to the batterys and chargers that go with them). And please no suggestions that involve soldering anything...I have enough paperweights around the house (kidding..)

If I am understanding the dynamics of the batterys correctly, them I think that the 18650s sound stronger and longer lasting per charge (correct?). I am going to check out your favorite now, trooplewis. Thanks for the reply!

OK pocket carry and 800 lumens that narrows it down. How about the Uniquefire UF-2100 3 or 5 mode? I have the Yezl version of this light and it belts out an honest 800 lumens and fits in your pocket. Here is the test.

Here is a really good price on the 3 mode version.

The 5 mode version.

You are also going to need at least two 18650 batteries and a charger.

I recommend protected Trustfire Flame 18650s to start out and a Trustfrire TR-001 charger.

This is the TR-001 charger I have bought a couple to sell and kept one for myself, it is my go to charger very reliable safe and cheap.

For batteries I own about 20 of these Trustfire protected 18650s again very powerful reliable and safe at a reasonable price.

I don't typically recommend DIno Direct for a vendor but they have some really good prices right now and they have been stepping up there game. Check around they have posted some decent coupon codes on BLF find one and use it and you can get a great deal on an awesome starter light setup.

Use this coupon to knock $5 bucks off.

oneworldweshare - 5$ (order 30$)

I like E1320's recommendations. A similar charger (that I prefer) is the TrustFire TR-003P4. It charges 4 cell at once and it has a cover to keep the dust out.
