AAA battery popped in my Opus BT-C3100

I was charging a bunch of older NI-MH cells and one of the AAA cells popped and spewed goo down inside my Opus BT-C3100. I considered tearing it apart to try cleaning it out, but this is one of the original, first gen models, and I’ve been wanting to buy something newer anyway.
Just thought I’d share a picture of the damage. I stopped using it as soon as the battery popped, but I didn’t take it apart right away. This is about 2 weeks after the cell ruptured.

Sure it wasn’t an alkaleak? :open_mouth:

I suspect I may have had an alkaline battery mixed up in my Ni-MH pile of cells.
I didn’t think about it at the time, but a few days later, I was inspecting my remaining cells and did find one that did not belong :person_facepalming:

Do you have the shell of the blown one to verify what it was?

No. But a week later, when I dug out another charger to finish charging my pile, I looked closer at all my cells and found one that was not rechargeable. I suspect that one battery had a mate and that was what popped.
I have too many Ni-MH batteries from various manufacturers. None are as good as my Eneloops, so I think I’ll just buy a few more Eneloops and do away with all rest. No more mix-ups that way.
