Sofirn SC31 w/replacement Nichia 4000K 90+ CRI

This Sofirn SP31 is a nice 18650 type light to give to muggles. USB charge port, 600 lumen, 3 simple modes, and a decent 18650 cell. 600 lumen is really quite a bit of light for someone not used to retina blasting hotrods. The light doesn’t really get hot on high for any length of time.

I tested a double wrapped protected NCR18650GA, and it fits fine.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the XP-G3 emitter, so I changed it out to a Nichia 219C 4000K emitter on a M.E. 16mm MCPCB. Although, the XPG3 is ugly shining it on a white wall, it’s really not bad at all outdoors. If I was giving one away, I wouldn’t bother changing the emitter.

Nice light with a Sofirn 2200 mAh Cell.

Side button light comes on for a few seconds when turned on, and blinks while charging.

Easy to get apart. At first I thought it was grease on the bezel. Turns out it’s glue that never hardened. Twisted it off with my hands.

Remove XPG3 MCPCB, and remove centering screw.

Install new Nichia 219C MCPCB from Mt. Electronics, and done.

Outdoor beamshot with the XP-G3

Beamshot with the Nichia 219C 4000K

Quite a nice difference!

My SC31 had the head pretty firmly glued though. I’d need tools or heat or a combination to get mine apart like that.

The glue in mine was like jelly. Never set up hard at all. I did the same emitter change with the Sofirn SP32 v2, and had to use strap wrenches.

It was pretty easy to twist off with the right tools. I put a SST-20-W 3000k 95CRI in it. Gorgeous tint

Sounds really nice. Feel free to post an outdoor beamshot
