I’m not going to be interested unless it works off nimh too, because then it’s a good fairly-throwy light for those who i don’t think will take adequate care of li-ion, and it’d even run off alkaline, badly. NiMH could take enough power draw to be useful. Plus, better efficiency and stuff than the usual linear and fet drivers, though they have their place.

folks – the driver is not final as we heared

they need to decide which way to go (full compatibility AA to 14500 with limited functions), skip the AA/NiMh part (top output) or maybe do the wizardry and make it work at last.

I keep you updated Wink

imo they should skip AA batteries, i mean the output on those will be like 300 lumens or so? not so useful thrower then maybe..

I hope they can make it compatible with both AA NiMh & 14500 batteries. That would be the best of both worlds.
Even if the output was lower with the NiMh AA’s it would be a much more versatile light.

I have helped test prototypes of this nature in the past, making it do good output with a Li-ion AND use the AA format is prone to be problematic… even once working and you use the light primarily in AA then you use a Li-ion… well, I’ve seen the AA side of the driver fry too easily. How would y’all like diving into this and then have that function quit working on your light? Much better in my opinion to dedicate to one or the other. It would be more reliable and make for a happier fan base. And of course, I would like to see it make the power. We are the Flashlight Forum, not K-Mart.

Personally I won’t buy one if it doesn’t support NiMH AAs

Make em dedicated Li-ion only and I will buy Thetasigma’s. Big Smile

Just funnin, of course, I doubt very seriously Lumintop will deviate from whatever plan they are forming based on a few individual’s like’s/dislikes.

Maybe it is often problematic to support both NiMH and LiIon, but I think it should be possible and would be nice to have something like that that works. Also, as other said, some would probably buy it just because of this feature and use parts elsewhere Smile

My Enogear SS AA/14500 driver fried the moment I put a 14500 in there so I can see the difficulty of supporting both. However, my Reylight Ti Lan and Sofirn SF14 supports both battery types very well and I love the versatility. I put in AA when I let my kids play with them.

If they do the wizardry and make the micro-GT work well with both NiMh and 14500, while preserving Narsil, the Micro-GT will have a unique selling point and I will stop telling that Lumintop makes ancient drivers Big Smile

SKV89, what is the UI on the Reylight Ti Lan and Sofirn SF14? Do either have Narsil? Perhaps there are too many eggs in this particular basket, too many wants, not enough pocket to stuff them in… Wink

I have a couple that work, too, but the UI is simple and the output is less than desired.

I only need it to work on NiMH AA cells. My grandsons would love this light, but they’re not ready for Lithium Ion batteries.

Perhaps they could make two offerings? One to run on AA (Alkaline, NiMH, NiCad) and the other to run on Li-ion? Then there would be a choice for those that would like to gift the light to non Li-ion users… That would be much easier for them to implement and they may well sell more total lights with the choice of power supply. Just a thought.

No those are rear clickies. Full click for on/off. half click to change modes. SF14 have no memory mode. Reylight you enable or disable memory mode. Very simple but both AA and 14500 works well though.

I would be interested in a GT Lite, with 3 18650 and a 80mm reflector.

I think, Lumintop should also consider this version:

BLF GT M:
2S3P (6 pcs total) 18650 (OR a slimmer 2S 26650 version)
Net reflector diameter: 95 mm
XHP35 HI emitter

I think, this could be implemented as being just a bit more than half weight of the original BLF GT, and it would be a very practical thrower.

GT Micro could be a better idea with the Osram White Flat emitter.

I would rather see 2S 21700 because there are already a ton of similar 2S 26650 lights already including the new Jaxman X6 Hunter, Convoy L2 & L6, Thorfire S70, Sofirn SP70, etc.

Thing is that for me a general light appeals in any output, both low output and high output lights have their use and I accept and appreciate less output when the light runs on a safe NiMh battery.

But throwers is different, they must throw really well to be attractive, regardless the battery chemistry. A micro-GT modded with the best current throw led, the Osram KW CSLNM1-TG, on a NiMh and the best boost driver available, will still make under 50 kcd. My sk68 mod with dedomed XP-E2 from 4 years back does that too. While that same micro-GT with a 14500 does 130 kcd, which is impressive for such a small light and immediately attractive for me.

(admitted, I have no grandsons yet and my 8yr-old thinks me and my hobby is a bit silly)

I’m not really impressed by the battery life a FET on one of those entails. Since it won’t be AA compatible, I’ll just stick with a 18650 light.

Bummer on no AA support, but will be interested if that becomes an option in the future.

Any idea if these will have a true neutral emitter (around 5000K) , or will they go with the warmer 4000K again?
