Making my Olight M3X better.

I bought a Olight M30 tailcap with the side button for my Olight M20s to make the light tailstand. It has worked great.

The other day I decided to see if this cap would fit on my Olight M3X. It did. To my surprise, it made my M3X better. Not only am I able to change modes without twisting the head, it gives me access to strobe and one extra lighting mode. It seems that the modes are spaced just a little different.

The stock low mode of the M3X is listed at 60 lumens. With the M30 tailcap, the low mode is lower. It looks to be somewhere around 45 lumens. The medium mode looks to be somewhere around 140 lumens. High is the same with either tail cap.

I judge the brightness and difference in lumens by using it side by side with TK41 which I compared with the original M3X tail cap.

I mentioned this over at CPF and was told that this could harm my flashlight. I emailed Olight USA and have not heard back from them. I was wondering if anyone here has an opinion on if this set up will harm my light? I really can't see how it could but then again, I'm not too smart.

I got an email back from Olight today. They did say that using the M30 tail cap could harm the M3X. They didn't say why, only that it may harm the light.

first that tailcap is sick , looks like an excellent tailstander cap . without knowing anything about those lights i would think you would harm the tailcap. unfortunately micro current is not my forte. frankly id say break out the multi meter - the difficult part is incorporating the tailcaps but doable. hopefully somone with better knowledge will chime in. post it up if you find out.

There may be circuitry in the tailcap that's not compatible with the driver in the torch, similar to the Solarforce Skyline I's electronic switch.

I finally got an email back from Olight USA. They said that using the M30 tail cap could damage the M3X. I still don't know why but I put the old cap back on as I don't want to harm my excellent M3X.
