Other finishes for the D4S

I own two D4S’s and I’m itching for a third, because flashlight, and also because the XP-L HD option is now available. But before I go off dumping another ~$70 I’m wondering what the likelihood is of seeing the D4S released in any other or “special edition” colors, like the blue/green/white/titanium D4. I had a vision of a clear anodized or even raw aluminum D4S and that thought… appeals to me. Any chance of that (or anything else) happening?

Edited to put in the right spot.

This.

If you want the bare aluminum look just soak it in some Greased Lightning for several hours. After that you can polish it for more shine and a smoother look with metal polish.

I really wish they’d come out with an 18650 tube for the D4 that has knurling on it (basically the titanium tube out of aluminum).

Aluminum is lighter weight and conducts heat better. It’s more practical than titanium. But the smooth aluminum is so slippery, and the gritty aluminum feels uncomfortable… like holding a stick of chalk. I much prefer actual knurling.

Heh, well I guess that’d work wouldn’t it? I didn’t mean specifically that though, I just meant any other options at all.

I agree with the sentiment; I like that color. But I also agree that the texture ruins it. I’m simultaneously afraid to scratch it and don’t want to hold it because it feels chalky or something.

I was wondering the same thing. I would like to see them make a sand color similar to the convoy S2+. I would buy one.

I would like one in cyan. To match the D4 I have. Matching auxiliary lights would be awesome with it.

Try the white D4.

I have both the blue and the white D4. Both are gritty. But the white is grittier!

Yeah, my D4 is cyan/blue and I love it.

Next choice would be green.

Not too common, but cool enough.

My D1s is grey, FWIW.

Copper would be cool, so would titanium with a copper head. I would be concerned for the price though…

I figured it was to increase demand for them and then release limited batches of them every now and then, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. I got the last cyan D4 remaining at mtn, in cool white xp-g2. I wonder if they’ll be collectible Big Smile
