In search for a better led

It seems that white leds are progressing faster and faster but colored leds sit at the same level for years.
I am looking for something better than red and green XP-E2, something with same forward voltage (~3V) but able to take higher current (3-4A).
Slightly larger diy (xpg2 size) would be acceptable but not significantly larger (like Phlatlight PT-54) because I need it for throw, not spill, inside a moderately sized reflector.
Green leds are especially problematic because they have shortest throw.

Anyone aware of something better, please let me know.
Thanks

Btw.

- I can’t use large reflector

  • I am driving them at 2A, after that it all goes into the heat

I too am looking for a high powered Green LED for throw. If you find anything let me know.

I have been trying to dig into the Osram White Flat or Blak Flat to see if they come in colors but finding the right LEDs on their website is very difficult.

How about this? If I am reading this right the green looks quite powerful for a small die size (1350Lm @ 5A, 2mm^2).

Here is the SFT-10. Lower output but half the die size (~780Lm @3A,1mm^2).

From Here:

Man the optical spectrum on that PC green SFT20 looks great! Might order me a couple of those next parts order.

I checked them and they look promising.
Several problem thou: no place to buy them, probably had to get 250pcs (full reel) and they have custom soldering pads, something like this from led4power

but I am not sure we have center positioned single led mcpcb and one more thing, I would say that DTP cannot be used, has to be electrically insulated…

On other hand dedoming will not be a problem because, there is no dome

Looks like you can order from digikey on a 19mm board, however they are not stocked and are then put together on order. A quick check makes me believe a 45 day or so turnaround.

They are also $15 each and with a minimum order of 40pcs…

Reef lighting (for saltwater aquariums) businesses and suppliers could be a source worth checking for small quantities of such colored leds and custom boards.

Steve’s Leds

Here is a source for Reef Aquarium and Horticultar emitters offering small quantities and grab bags.

They responded in an email that they will supply the LEDS unmounted if desired. The selection is limited but interesting.

FYI, osram released their “white flat” in green, 500+ lumens at 1 amp in a Xpe2 sided emitter. Output is 2.5x that at max rated current (3 amps).

Man, I totally forgot about this thread.
So, an update: I contacted Luminus directly and got a response from their subsidiary, I requested 2 models, red and green in bare form and on a mcpcb, this is what they quoted me:

so just to recap, thats 871,4$ for 40 leds (21,7$ per LED)…

OSRAM OSTAR Projection Compact LE R Q8WP (1.5*1.2 mm die, 3535 footprint).
Datasheet for red: 90 to 224 lm@1.4 A, 288 to 717 lm@5 A@3.2 V.

Ouch!

Other then the red the new Osram CSLNM1.F1 far outperforms the SFT-10.

I’ve wanted to pick up the circular die SBT-70 in green for quite a while now. It makes so much more lumens than any other green die it’s not even comparable. And it’s expensive, of course.

Over 2000 lumens in green at 10.5A. :open_mouth:

Did I mention it’s $95.63 before shipping?
Guess I didn’t mention that it’s 4.9Vf at that 10.5A, did I?

Reef used to do group buys on emitters way back when. I remember finding the site and thought i'd fallen into a super secret society of led lunatics.

Green
Red

Anyone needs 970 red and 970 green leds?

;D

I’m in for 10 green… Oh heck, I would buy 10 red for the fun of it.

I REALLY don’t want to reflow them though…

Nope. Get this . It does up to 14.000 green lumens. :smiling_imp:

Just be aware that OSRAM OSTAR Projection Power LE CG P3A 01 has a wide range “converted green” 500 to 600 nm. Spectrum includes cyan, green, yellow to orange.
And it has 2x4 emitters.

Received yesterday:

Are those the reds? Looks fantastic. Where did you get them? I can’t find any place that stocks them.

Unfortunately my sample order for osram green leds was canceled.
