Tips on removing stuck tailcap on copper Lumintop/Reylight Tool

I left a copper Tool in a drawer for a long time and just started using it again. I replaced the old aaa battery by removing the head and the light seems to work fine. However, I noticed that the old battery leaked a little bit, and the tailcap clinky switch feels like its fused onto the body. I looked down the tube with a flashlight and can some leakage near the spring. Cleaned this out using a toothpick.

Any advice would be appreciated. I would like to get the cap off to clean it better and grease the threads. The threads were probably light on grease when it was put away.

Thanks.

Try coke? (the drinking kind, not the sniffing kind).

Actually, whenever I have to deal with those hateful little alkaleaks, soaking what’s tainted in plain ol’ vinegar usually dissolves it.

Only Cu might react with acids, so try it for a few minutes at a time, rinse, look, make sure it doesn’t pit it or anything. But AcOH will dissolve the leaking/dried KOH / K2CO3 just fine.

Yep, vinegar.
Perhaps mix the vinegar with a litle hydrogen peroxide.

On the outside, try a drop of penetrating oil around the place tailcap meets the battery tube.

Gentle twisting tighter/looser over and over, just to try to work the contact loose.
