Help upgrade my 2x18650 Berg xhp50 light

Hello. First post here.

I just bought a cheap 2x18650 li-ion powered usb charging xhp50 led lamp from my home Country Finland.

price was only 39e ( under 50usd ? ) It seems like ok lamp, but I would like to upgrade it, since its not even getting hot

and I feel there is much more light to come. there is only 100% power and 30% and then OFF .

the driver seems a bit “stupid” as there is spring on the other side and only 3 R100 resistors on other side … its a round type driver.

maybe the normal size ( have to do some measurements )

is it easiest to get new better driver there or what ?

I will try to add pics soon…

oh, the same lamp is Sealey led450 in some Countrys

4 options you should do

1. discharge the battery pack and put it in the recycling bin
Why?

- because with 33mOhms as current limiting resistors with proper high drain batteries you should get at least 3000 lumens

- so they use some Ultrafire fake batteries which are absolutely junk

  • I doubt the battery pack contains a BMS, so after charging it a few times it may explode

2. replace that “driver” with one of my buck ones

3. bridge all springs with high flex battery wire 0.35mm² is sufficient

4. check if thats a real cree XHP50 or fake

and option 4 as sad as it sounds put the whole light in recycling bin and buy a proper light like Yaxman XHP50 lights or so, but honestly i would get a reflector light like Convoy L2
because you bought a piece of junk overpriced

1 . What batteries do you recommend ?

2. driver ? as soon as I check the size …

3. OK

4. I will add picture, wait.

at least LED looks to be no fake
but is the pill hollow, what MCPCB used?

I also doubt that the MCPCB is DTP which is a requirement for higher currents
can check this with DMM from central pad to bottom of MCPCB

ouch…

what is MCPCB ? and DMM … ?

I will check, if you tell me  ( noob in this area, sorry )

Metal Core Printen Circuit Board the one the XHP50 sits on

Digital Multi Meter (continuity setting aka beep)

Is there a way to get that white plastic away ?

Otherwise cant really tell…

oh, forgot to ask:

So with only better batteries ( what to use ? ) this could get more output already ?

See those grooves in the top of the aluminium? You may have to unscrew them (try counter clockwise direction), it seems to be a screwed in “ring” that holds the white plastic gasket and also the emitter board (MCPCB)!

one piece design .
those holes were used to get it out of the body of the flashlight.

i will try to figure something…

Then you may need to pull it from the sides of the interior hole! Flat stuff like tweezers may help! Try not to touch the LED, though

About the “better output”, I’m not sure if you will get much more from that flashlight with that driver! If you can solder, putting one of Lexel’s drivers will much be better for sure.
Also, if the MCPCB (emitter plate) is copper, it will be even better. If it is aluminium, not so much.

current driver measurement 26mm

And no… can’t get that plastic off… ( don’t want to brake the led )

So plan ?

1. Batteries for better

2. soldering the springs

3. driver … So what is it gonna be ? for 26mm measurement

( yes I will buy better flashlight after this )

Have you tried to “twist” the plastic, as if trying to unscrew it? Maybe it is screwed in, not press fit!
To replace the driver it will be better if you can remove it (to solder better wires from the driver to the LED).

The batteries, it will depend on the driver as well. I don’t know if putting high-drain batteries in a driver like that will be a good idea. Maybe other member can step in and help on this as well

My plan was to make all those at once .

to get max output from it.

does not help if you toast the LED on a bad MCPCB with those mods

damn…

so I really need to get the plastic out there…

And there is something more: the light is side switch, but there are only 2 wires coming out from that driver. I am not sure how the switch button makes contact with the pill (big aluminium piece with the driver and LED)
This may demand more work than it seems…

so keep that as spare light and buy myself a better one ?

if so …

best for around 70-80e included delivery to Finland ?

- real throw needs to be +200m ( so you really see there )

  • hand sized ( this one is a little too large )
other than that… open to everything…

Don’t want to buy another one if its no good…

And don’t get this wrong… this light is ok light for my opinion, but the promised values were not there :

2000lm and 500m throw
