zebralight sc63w, what should i do??

hello all,
would like your views please.

just received my new light and when turned on the switch material is not uniform and light shows thought the top edge of the switch?
contacted zebralight, sent an image. they offered 10% refund or exchange but wont pay the shipping.

this is my first light from them and a little disappointed, any others ever had this fault with this brand?

I recall this issue creating a brouhaha on cpf a while ago. It is purely cosmetic. Basically the material they make the switch boot out of is naturally clear but they add dye to make it black. In some cases the dye did not get mixed properly resulting in light peeking through. There is no loss of waterproofing or durability as far as I know.

From the previous post I get the idea intrinsically there is nothing wrong with your light. You can operate it as planned, but the looks of it are not what you want in a light of this price range. And I don’t blame you.
You can settle for the 10% refund of course. If you don’t want to, there are a few thing that are unclear

Where did you buy it. You pay the seller, and the seller has to deliver what’s expected. If the product does not live up to what’s a reasonable expectation, the seller will have to see to it that the product is fixed, or he has to take it back and refund you. I guess these rules are valid in the whole EU.
How did you pay the seller? PayPal offers a return shipping refund. How PayPal recovers the cost of it is not your (or mine) concern.

Thankyou for the reply.
Makes me think Zebralights QC needs improving if this is an on going fault? They are expensive units to say the least.

The light was purchased direct from Zebralights website with paypal, still in two minds about sending it back as its still a great small light and tint.

I guess you got an SC63w that was produced right around when they got that big batch of faulty switch covers for the current generation lights. Zebralight blew off anyone who complained about it and said it wasn’t an issue. Because poorly dyed switch covers are completely acceptable for an $80 flashlight :person_facepalming:

Well, $70 actually. The SC63w is an older model and is on clearance.

Zebralight flashlights are excellent, but they do have periodic quality-control issues. Of the 13 or so Zebras I’ve owned, almost half had issues.

The ones without issues are phenomenal. But when issues do crop up they are irritating.

My SC600w IV Plus has the partially transparent switch cover due to poor dying at the factory. Personally, I find it to be a non-issue and don’t really consider the light to be defective. The light still looks and feels great and the lack of dye on the front half of the button has no effect whatsoever on the function of the light. If you are a perfectionist, you could return it for repair or replacement, but in my opinion it’s not worth it.

Same for anodizing. Unless there are horrendous defects in anodizing, I wouldn’t return a light for that. Even if you had a light with perfect anodizing, it would probably get dropped at some point or the anodizing would wear. That stuff doesn’t last forever.

But its not, the SC63 is a fairly old model at this point.

So its buyer beware BurningPlayd0h on old but new lights?

Maybe it’s just me being picky then saving up to buy an extra special flashlight on clearance.

I’m aware of that, but many lights affected by the switch dye issue are in the $80-90 range. I don’t consider it an acceptable cosmetic defect for a light at this price point.

If it will bother you every time you use the light, it’s better to just send it back now. IIRC, there’s a no questions asked return policy within 30 days.

This may just be a cosmetic issue, but it’s not excusable on a fairly pricey light. Zebralight had to see the ugly switch covers. They should have throw out all those covers and got proper ones. Or include them as backup covers (for free) in lights they send out.

I got the same model about 2 weeks ago direct from ZL and the switch cover is fine, solid black, so there are likely proper ones left.

It really is a great light.

I would take the 10% or pay a couple bucks and get the replacement, as in the long run I really think you will like the light.

OR if you could get them to take it back even paying shipping, buy the LNIB one Gunga is selling for $50 (if it is not gone yet) and you will have money back in your pocket.

edit - whoops, just saw England - I would take the 10% and enjoy the light.

Yes i think you are right, will take the discount and enjoy the light
Thanks for clearing my muddled mind.
