3535 - best combination of "cheap" and "efficient"?

Hi!

I ordered some pretty old (8-9 Years) Toshiba E-Core LED lights from a old new stock seller - down to 50Lm/W
I ordered 32 types of lights - two aren’t really usable, but one seems to be pretty nice - this one:

Runs with 12V DC or AC and is really easy to open. Plus the driver is completely pottet which is perfect for an aquarium-room with high humidity.

I would like to modify those lights for Aquarium-use.
So I went to the one adress that I have for cheap 3030 LEDs - FastTech
I ordered:
1x XP-G3 3000K
2x XP-G3 4000K
2x XP-G3 5000K
1x XP-G3 6000 - 7000K

Should be a nice neutral light - but also costs $12.75 - I already have 2 Lights but plan on ordering 8 more - so I would need LEDs for $127.50…

So - Is there any 3030 LED that is as efficient as the XP-G3, can be powered with 600mA (or better 1200mA since the driver puts out 1200mA to 6 LEDs in 3S2P) and is maybe a lot cheaper?
I already have 20 XP-E2’s here from a group buy some years ago - but those only have 105Lm/w - and I want something in the direction of 150Lm/w or more.

Thanks a lot!

LH351C, 160lm/W@2W, 5000k / CRI 80+ : €0.4166 in quantities of 25+ at Arrow

Or the LH351B, the 4000k (80CRI) is cheap at the moment:

Since you can mix all sorts in pairs of 2 with 3S2P:

The 90CRI XP-G3s can be had for <1€ there too, the 80CRI for <0.80€

Well, the shipping cost of at least $37.99 kills the deal

Thanks for the hint! I haven’t looked at those component-sellers at all :person_facepalming:

We don’t have many in Europe/Germany and out of them, only Mouser sells less than 1000pcs - but the pricing is pretty nice, just a bit over 1€ for an CRI90 XP-G3

No free shipping for you at Arrow L4M4?

In my case if order amount is below €22 the package goes through O:) customs untaxed, really helps for small abroad specific component orders.

Arrow has a lot of XP-G3s and other leds.

Why so many different CCT emitters? Do you aim to dynamically adjust the CCT or just for the sake of tint mixing?

Cheers

Just buy one of Arrow’s ‘Free Overnight Shipping’ items (like this) to get free shipping.

Wati what?
I can order a $1.54 LED with free overnight shipping from the US?
How does that work :open_mouth:

That’s fantastic, thank you so much!

I noticed that Mouser has support in germany, but no warehouse - so massive shipping fees as well.
And Farnell only has CRI70 and only a couple tints.
But that doesn’t count anymore

@Barkuti: I want a lot of different tints because for tanks you should have pretty much a full spectrum - also it makes the CRI a bit higher and looks nicer overall.

No idea how. Globalization?

Yes it’s nuts. But hey.
BTW, what emitters are in there? I have some older 4200k Toshiba MR16 spot lights that use the Rebel Plus, they’re quite nice but not very efficient. Pollin sold them a while ago too.

I have ordered two Toshiba E27 Spots from Pollin - they have Rebels in there as well, so really hard to modify, no easy desolder and soldering in better LEDs like this one.

My lights have some Cree-Looking-but-not-Cree 3535 LEDs in them:

And as you can soo on top - this bulb is from 2011.
Crazy how cheap it is to get LEDs 8 Years later that are 3x as efficient as these…

So, I just ordered

The order isn’t that much cheaper as with FastTech ($10.88 vs. $12.75 for all LEDs needed for one light) - but there is a big difference - those I ordered are all CRI 90, those from FT are undefined, so they will be CRI70.

If I look closely on that picture above - those are original Cree XP-G’s, right? I am so unused to see them because I never had XP-Gs before 2nd Gen…

Aaah! High CRI for the algae, corals, fishes and calamari! :-D Very considerate of you. ;-)

Oh! Well, I understand that will also help with aquarium contemplation.

Let's play a riddle game, I say you ordered:

That plus german VAT (19%) is $10,88 LoL, pluzzed me a bit initially as I was adding spanish VAT (21%).

Cheers

Correct
I am seriously thrilled about this order - arrow has soooo much LEDs that I never could get from other sellers - I ordered 25 LC561B+ as well - I use a 18*5630 LED Board in an Ikea KVART Lamp for my bed - and the LEDs I am using there are 8 or so years old, so I expect the 561 to be at least 50% brighter and because of CRI90 a bit nicer.

Thank you guys so much to open that door for me

I cant yet believe that i just ordered something from usa to europe free of charge… That WILL be interesting in the future

Well, mine says

So I guess they do have a EU-Warehouse - but even if, DHL Shipping inside germany costs like 3-4€ for business-partners, so if you order a single LED they would make a pretty massive loss on that.

I think their strategy might be to keep the guys doing hobby projects happy so that when those guys go to need large parts orders for their work they’ll go back to Arrow.
Idk doest make sense to me either but shhh. Don’t tell them!

I think they have a warehouse in the NL.

Talk about wasting money… one time last year I ordered a bunch of stuff, maybe 40 €, they ended up filling 4 or 5 mid-sized boxes. Don’t ask me why but they packaged 5 ATtinys in a JEDEC tray that got its own box. 200g plastics for 200mg parts, and those aren’t cheap either.

What sort of led emitter is that? Googled it in many ways but just got a bunch of unrelated results. Last time I got 5730 emitters was from pargos shop (eBay), some nice Osram 5730s in there. My kitchen lamp features a DIY mixture of 5700K CRI85 and 4000K CRI95 units.

Cheers ^:)

oops :person_facepalming:

Man I am loving Arrow.

Just ordered 10 of these Samsung LH351C for 59 cents each;
SPHWHTL3D50EE4RTNF

and 10 of these Samsung LH351B for 55 cents each;
SPHWH2L3D30ED4TPK3

Killer deal with the free shipping.
Now the question becomes will these come with additional tariff since they are shipped from NL?
The website warns you of possible tariffs but does not spell out which warehouses apply.
Anyone in USA get these in the past 3 months?

Either way great deal.
Time to fire up solder iron soon!

Just another reason BLF rocks.

I made 2 Orders, they were split into 3 packages - one came from the Netherlands, the two others from the US.

Ordered 16.02
Shipped 18.02
Received NL-Parcel on 19.02
and the two US parcels today, 21.02

That’s insane.
The package from NL had 5 Samsung 3535 LEDs in it worth €2.64 - yet it came very fast and in a big box, packaged very well with a bag of desiccant and some indicator if the inside of the bag got wet.
That can’t work
The parcel from NL came with GLS - if I would like to send something to NL, it would cost at least 9.69€…
