Alright guys...here's a new draft of the manual for the WildTrail D80 V2. TheOnlyDocc and I would appreciate your feedback and if there's anything missing or to be rectified, we'll be more than happy to hear about it. Smile

Unfortunately, there are still some gaps yet to be filled about the driver. Maybe Lexel could be so kind to provide more detailed information?

  • Is there any LVP in place and if so, at what voltage will LVP be triggered? (I guess so but we need to be sure)
  • Is there any reverse polarity protection in place?
  • Apart from details in the code, is there any big difference between the original BISTRO UI and BISTRO OTSM? If so, is there any UI chart for BISTRO OTSM available yet?
  • At what thermal threshold or timer threshold will the driver trigger a stepdown?

Cheers,

Thomas

Hum, in the text it is mentioned BLF and TLF, but the light only has BLF. Would it be an issue?
Also, maybe the non-anodized photos shouldn’t be on the anodized manuals and vice versa!
So far, my eyes can’t read more stuff Silly

Thanks for your work Wink

TheOnlyDocc did not spare any extra efforts to receiving feedback from TLF users as well.

In a nutshell, yes...it's a contribution and collaboration of both TLF and BLF.

But I don't think anyone will feel angry if the D80 BLF V2 follows the naming convention of other successful lights like Thorfire's BLF Q8.

So, you're suggesting a separate manual for the anodized and non-anodized version?

I'm not sure if this a good idea since it may cause a risk of supplying the wrong manuals with the right flashlights or it could increase handling efforts as there won't be an universal manual for all versions.

Oh, ok, thanks for the explanation! I was just questioning about having one and not the other in the name of the flashlight! That’s ok for me Smile

Nope, not suggesting that! Actually, please forget my point! I was just worried that people may complain for having/not having an image of a light different from theirs on the manual! But this is not even an issue, so please ignore Innocent

No worries. Any feedback is very welcome. Thank you! Smile

Maybe we should take these pictures out of the manual as they may not look good coming from a black-white copy machine? Big Smile

Don’t take the pics out, just convert them so that they DO look good coming from a black/white copy machine! Party

EDIT: Nah, never mind, I just looked again. They don’t have good lighting to be able to convert successfully. If there’s a probability that they will be printed with black ink only, they should probably be removed, or replaced with better shots.

TheOnlyDocc will ask Jacky if WildTrail prints a colorful manual. This would also be better to read the BISTRO UI chart. Costs should not increase that much, I guess.

And thanks for all the kind words guys. Also thanks to all people involved. Without your help this would not be possible!
It was a really fun to get this nice BLF classic updated to the light it should have been from the start. And i hope that we can get the sale started soon!
Now we need to get the manual finnished so WildTrail can print them. At the moment we are waiting for a few more infos from Jacky (he is on to it) and a few more infos from Lexel regarding his driver.

Thanks again and i hope this will be only the stating point for future projects.

Next draft of the manual...(still awaiting Lexels feedback).

I fixed some minor things and exchanged the two pictures of the BLF D80 V2 by an exploded drawing, supplemented by a description of what is what.

Cheers,

Thomas

I talked to Jacky this morning and he was able to get us the information that were missing for the manual. Now we only have to wait for Lexels driver information and then the manual can be printed.
We also talked about the order prozess.
They will set up two offers in their store One with SST-40 and one with XPL-HI led (price 37$).
If someone from BLF or TLF wants to buy the light they have to write their BLF/or TLF name in the order.
Then order the light but do not pay. Then we will check if the people are BLF/TLF member. If yes they will adjust the price down to 27,70$. Then you pay and the light will be send out.
For the people on the no ano list. You have to write no ano light additional to your Forum nick.
Appart from that the order prozess will be the same.
But it is possible that the sale has to be pushed back a few days. Because Jacky got a phone call from the hospital a few minutes after we finnished talking. His wife is in labour right now.
I wish him and his family all the best in the world and i hope he will let us know if everything is ok (and if its a boy or a girl).

Fantastic!
I had read your instructions but wasn’t sure if the user ID’s were then going to be checked against an interest list, rather than being open to anyone on BLF. But that’s great, thank you!

As this light has a mechanical tail clicky, lockout by unscrewing the tail cap is not very much of a necessity. Much more difficult to accidentally engage a mechanical clicky switch that has a protection ring around it. Of course, breaking ground by that simple twist makes it nigh impossible for an accidental On state, as would leaving the cell out of the light altogether. Wink

Nice line-up Jos, I have multiples of most of those and still the X6 is my favorite. The D80 grew on me after I got one in hand, surprised me, but the classic C8 has always been unattractive to me and probably always will be. I have always liked the beam profile of the D80, hoping they didn’t tighten the hot-spot too much in this improved version. Eagerly anticipating my two…

Am I correct in understanding this light will have Bistro OTSM? or just regular bistro?

Good question… if it comes with the OTSM variation I’ll go with a boosted 35 in at least one of mine.

lighted tail switch could be a possibility too. maybe Lexel could chime in on if that would require a bleeder or if it’s good to go as is.

As far as i know it will be Bistro OTSM.
But we are trying to get in contact with Lexel for the last few days. Via Forum and via Skype. Because we need some information for the manual (regarding his driver) and for the website where the lights will be sold. But no answere.

Which LED should throw farther? I see that the SST-40 has a bigger hospot and more lumens.

The XP-L HI should throw further, no dome. Same size die, the lack of dome should nearly double throw all other things being equal. The 40 will carve that down with brute strength but of course it will take significantly more amps to do so, compromise all over the place.

I have some questions:

1) What’s the difference between Bistro and Bistro OTSM?

(I know the BLF X5/X6v2 aka Astrolux S2/S3, CPF Italia Cometa and Mateminco X6S use Bistro, but are there already other commercially available flashlights that use “Bistro OTSM”?)

2) What are the estimate beam distance throw (candela) for the SST40 version and the XPL-Hi version? (shouldn’t these data, even if just estimates, be included in the specs chart?)

(I notice XPL-Hi is V2-3B, any reason for choosing 3B over 3A? I think 3A looks more rosy while 3B looks yellowish, at least as per my experience when comparing Astrolux flashlights that use XPL-Hi 3A and 3B)

3) Would there be a danger of burning out the SST40 LED if using a high-drain battery like 30Q or VTC6?

Yep, always that compromise. I bet a dedomed SST-40 would be quite the thrower.

I’d also be interested in knowing the approximate throw in meters.

Just a quick interim update:

What's the difference between Bistro and Bistro OTSM?

That's a question only Lexel and maybe some people that have dealt with the Bistro HD/OTSM source code may be able to answer. Again, I strongly encourage Lexel to chime in and eventually give us more insight as it's crucial to finalize the manual. He has been contacted and asked to reply to those questions mentioned before.

What are the estimate beam distance throw (candela) for the SST40 version and the XPL-Hi version?

I wish I could tell you - or even better - incorporate them into the specs chart. However, Jacky is unable to measure accurate numbers as LS does not have the tools for it. They were never faced with this requirement before, working as a 3PM for multiple brands. They are willing to invest into such devices for future projects, though. AFAIK, there was no prototype available yet that someone from BLF/TLF could have tried out. I'm afraid we need to wait for some BLFers to report their results once they received their lights. Another option would be to send out some more ready-to-manufacture samples to people who have the right equipment but I don't expect this to happen at this point of time.

Currently, there are some loose ends to tie up but hopefully these can be sorted a.s.a.p..
