Been out of the flashlight market for a while. I’m wondering what the current consensus on zoomie or aspherics is under around the $80 mark? I know that covers a lot, but is the Jaxman asperic model still generally the best option? I’d prefer a that it take both 26650 and 18650, but really just want general opinions on the best zoomie on the market that works great out of the box, and can still be modded later for higher output or different emitter. My experience with the Jax (Jaxman? What name do they go by now) in the past has been that they are very good out of the box, and also relatively easy to mod for noobs (me). Preference towards XHP/Mt-g2 stock in the light, but smaller led options welcome as well. If you had ~$75 or less for a nice zoomie that you didn’t intend to mod right away, who’s getting your money? Best beam pattern for both throw and flood that I’ve seen in a zoomie is my LED Lenser MT10…. which costs about $80.
It’s not a giant light though, so throw isn’t nearly as good as lights with big aspherics. If you want max throw something like a Jax Z1 will be better.

Maybe a UF-1405 or 1504… Nice big aspheric lens, seems well built, takes 26650s…
Thanks, I have been interested in those before. Do you know a reliable source for the one’s with the brass pill? In the past, the hosts or assembled lights I’ve gotten with intent to mod came with really soft, hollow, aluminum pills that made them hard to mod and low quality for high performance lights. I can never tell which ones are low-quality or the better versions based on the seller.
