Stop editing from pushing the post to the top.

I have a tendency to edit my post to correct spelling mistakes and grammar. It happens more often if I post from the phone where it’s harder to see mistakes.

What I don’t want to do is appear that I’m “pushing” posts. Worse is where it’s my thread, which means I post in it more often, thus probability of more mistakes….and concerns of “pushing” the thread.

So, is there a way to stop edits from going to the top of the front page?

Just asking……

Don’t worry about it.

I’m not seeing anyone accusing you of “pushing” posts, so why worry about it?

Because I’m a sensitive and caring guy….you bunch of butt biters. :confounded:

Group hug? :person_facepalming:

I link to the front page to see the latest topics of discussion so that is why I would prefer not to have my “mistakes” raise to the top. Particularly if the topic has already sunk to page 4.

Not a big deal but it would be nice if it was a simple fix.

It has been requested before, but I can’t remember what sb’s response was. Seems like it would be a nice change, so maybe it’s just not possible with the forum software.

EDIT: bump. :smiling_imp:

If someone were to say something about it I would have been scolded a long time ago. I type faster than I think. :person_facepalming:

I do the same thing. I don’t really feel right either knowing that when I correct my awful typing or spelling my post goes right back to the top.
Also knowing that if I don’t hurry up and correct myself, someone might quote my awful spelling, then there’s no way to fix it.
If edit last post back to the top feature gets banned, it be a blessing. :+1:

I AM NOT ALONE!

Nothing is more annoying then reading a post that I change 8 times in my head and then when I read it….there are 8 mistakes in the post. LOL

I do didn’t done do….daaaa :person_facepalming:

So……nobody here will admit to using “Edit” as a cheap bump for a stagnant post, huh? :smiling_imp:

The most annoying thing about this feature is when someone edits a reply repeatedly, and the forum keeps taking you to that reply instead of the latest one.

Yeah… my apologies for the annoyance, unfortunately I can’t really change that behavior. It’s actually a bit more nuanced that you might expect, if memory serves me correctly I believe it’s only when you edit the last post in a thread that it gets bumped to the top. Also I believe that editing the first post in a thread does not bump it.

I noticed this in the WTS forum. Kind of annoying that when somebody edits a post to mark something sold, the whole thread bumps.

There is a certain member here in commercial sales that does this to bump his thread to the top regularly. Very pesky of him. :expressionless:

@SB
Editing the last post is where the problem lies. If you make a reply to someone’s post, you are the last one in the thread. Then you suddenly realized you spelled led like “lead”, so you edit the post and fix the “lead” to led and hit save. Now the thread goes back to the top and there’s no new reply’s.
Just wasn’t sure if it was clear as to how this was happening.

If it can’t be fixed then that’s fine. :+1: It’s been that way as long as I remember and we are all still here, so no biggie.
It’s not very nice to be abusing it as a free bump though especially if its your on thread.

Sometimes I even write

Edit- ” More words that may need editing again.”

I can’t imagine how many mistakes those two handed cell phone texting warriors make.

I don’t post anywhere near as much. I only on this forum, two sports forums and 143 porn forums so I don’t get much practice.

(About to be clubbed like a baby seal in three…two….one…. :confounded: )

No big deal. At least I can edit my post and look semi intelligent. Kinda. Almost.

Funny short story. When I was learning morse code as a kid. I would open a magazine article and practice sending it to myself. Not on the air, just using the keyer in the radio so I could hear my own sending. Not a big deal really, until you forget to turn the transmitter off and you end up sending the entire article out over the air. After one evening of my magazine practice, I am just about ready to take my cans (headphones) off, and I copy someone sending, “Todd?” I know the look on my face must of been of complete horror. So I identify and my buddy a few states away in Texas says. “Todd, as much as I enjoyed your article on 20 meter dipoles, it was a little long winded and you forgot to identify” At which time my phone rings and he is dying laughing on the other end.

Guess it was better than making that mistake on Fridays. On Fridays I practiced all the cuss words.

You mean flEshight forums? They sound a bit related
