Family members you are PROUD of and why?

I am a creative person[Writer], not a mechanically inclined person like many of you and several of my family members. This is NOT about me.The idea for this came when I though about How easily my Two cousins, My Brother and my Uncle pick up on anything mechanical. All Four are engineers,I have different talents!

I will start with my Uncle Ed and my Dad and close w/ My Italian Grandmother.

During World War II [Depression era] my Dad and his Brother[Uncle Ed] had to help support the family. My Dad had a scholarship to Ohio State for Football and could not go. My Uncle dropped out of High School and had an Eight grade education…he was Four years older than my Dad.

My Father became innovative with computers. He worked for a company in the late 1950’s early 1960’s called UNIVAC. In 1967 he opened up his own Telecommunications company and was an innovator in that field. He sold it in 1982 and retired at age 50! My Father will be 88 on June 24th.My Father like a lot of successful people did not go to college for one reason or another. He and my Uncle are very reserved and cerebral. My Dad worked hard[worked smart!] for about 30 years and then was able to travel throughout the USA, Europe and Asia and enjoy the fruits of his labor.Today he is limited because of mobility issues. In the 30’s and 40’s when you got hurt playing sports, you kept playing and the technology was not nearly as good as today. Finally he was and still is always there for me. Believe me, in my younger years I got in trouble!,I know it is hard to believe!

I have to be honest. My Uncles accomplishments[although not as successful from a monetary stand point] are more impressive. He had an Eight grade education and became an Aerospace engineer for a company called Martin Marietta down in Florida.I asked my friend Bruce who is an engineer, HOW did my Uncle become an engineer with no degree and an Eight grade education? He said, he got Grandfathered in…basically on the job training. Bruce also said that engineers like your Uncle are more valuable to the company because they learn “on the Job” and are not Green right out of college. I am assuming after training for a time he probably took a test? I do not now for sure.

My Uncle Ed and his colleagues were instrumental in testing the Pershing Defense Missile System.I never knew this until after he passed away. He never said anything about it or bragged about anything.

He could build computers, fix anything, cars, TV’s, Computers, washer, dryers ect. He was a writer and wrote several books, a musician, a good Father and Built me an Ice Hockey stick when I visited him in Arkansas[Ozark Mts.] so I could play Hockey on their frozen lake!!

I have to add a Third. My Italian Grandmother who lived to 98. A simple woman[not much money], the best cook, unconditional love and very wise in her thinking and philosophy of life. She was One of Eight kids. Three came to the States. Six out of the Eight, including her, lived between 97 and 103! Two over 100. I was blessed to have met all but Two. I also went to Italy Twice and met her Brother, sister and many cousins.

That about wraps it up. For those of you who still have your parents, Aunts/Uncles, ect. Cherish them, because time flies and things can change in an instant.

Tell me about a family member[s] who your proud of and who have inspired you.

TIME IS YOURS. :sunglasses:

My uncle, died fast and left me all his wealth. Hallelujah.
Mike

My Grandpa was a Silver Star WWII hero and an integral part of engineering the solid rocket booster system for NASA’s space program.

:+1:

Last week my older brother made a very nice drawing on a chalkboard of an Egyptian pyramid on a moonlit night, in less than five minutes. I was amazed, to tell you the least.

Your humor is weak and contribution an insult.

Just.
As.
Planned.

How are old are you? 3? Get a life!

I should know better than to react to such an ,That will be all

@wolfdog, you have an error in the title.

It currently is:

Family members your proud of.

What it should be:

Family members you’re proud of.

I was going to post that I'm proud that everyone in my family is good at spelling and grammar, but that would be mean.

Plus, there's a lot of BLF members that are terrible spellers.

I am proud of every member of my family for many reasons. But this would rank as one of the top. If they do not have anything good to say about someone or a situation, they say nothing at all.
In addition they never major on minors and call attention to any trivial mistake someone else makes. They say it serves no real purpose & only makes the person who does it look ridiculous.
I have a great family!

My Sister in law, 3 years ago she was a major drug addict in pretty bad shape with a criminal history. Into heroin real bad and homeless, nearly died several times. Since then she has gotten 100 percent clean on her own without a rehab program, started a healthier lifestyle and gotten her life together. Now shes a colledge student making straight A’s studying for a medical degree to help others. She was in a position that almost never has a happy ending and we are all proud of her. Having lost other friends and family to hard drugs and even having some addictive problems of my own once in life I understand how hard it is to change. Addiction is something that never truly leaves you.

Nice to hear that. There is always HOPE.

It took me 5 years on here to say anything about recovery. Reality is, this is not the place to talk about it!

Your sister in Laws story gave me the courage and also that there is no reason why I should worry about what others think,it is none of my business, but you see I am human and failed that philosophy several posts up!

One day at a time I will have 22 years of sobriety on April 20. There is not enough time and this is Not the place to express my gratitude and to share all the things I have heard throughout those years.

It goes like this. If I do not have cancer[I do not] I can not possibly relate or understand ones who have been through it.

If one has not gone through alcohol, drug issues ect,. Then they can not possibly understand.

Twelve steps have the MOST success. This is not to say that a religious person or some other method won’t work.

All 4 of my daughters. They have all turned out to be good people anyone could be proud of. Except for the fact they are all nurses and regularly instruct me on healthier life choices. :innocent:

The things that I am most proud of my family for is that they are honest, and do not steal.

I have lived with people that steal, and it drives me crazy.

I’m proud of my old man. He was born during the WW1 and was a sniper in WW2 in the old country. He never talks about it but from what I heard from others, he was mowing them down and they had a “hunting party” to find him in the mountains. Mowed them down too. He stopped when the Nazi’s took woman and children from the villages and slaughtered them.

He is 101, repeat, 101 and lives by himself, takes care of himself and the only help I get him is someone going shopping for him.

Eyes spell gud wat u talcin bout?

MOB line up
