Just Blasted Myself with 500 Lumens

Remember Kramer with the flashbulb?

I saw a ghost of the business end of D25C Mk II for several minutes. Seems I got a delayed “on” but I was fiddling around with it so not sure maybe operator error.

I should know better.

I know real moon mode is tame to look at, but I wonder if it is just safer to never look directly into business end of a flashlight with the battery in there.

It is a nice hobby and useful tools for many - and best if you can see well to enjoy and use.

I believe it’s safe to say we’ve all been there

I blasted my GF while while we were her elevator, using my ET D25C Ti. clicky, on direct drive (thought it was on low.)

While we were out and about, walking, she was seeing black blotches for 6-10 minutes.

She wasn’t too happy.

I was cleaning my flashlight and I forgot it was loaded……

I've only looked into mine on moonlight mode so far...

But my other lights... I may have seen the business mode of my L6, while not realizing it was on momentary turbo... I'm just glad the cells were around 3.7v each and not full! It's a wonder my eyebrows didn't singe.

still better than with a gun
usual flashlight should be spread out enough not to cause permanent damage

Speak for yourself! :confounded:

Best self own story ever…

I had an annoyingly difficult employee i inherited. Fine. He was working in the finishing booth for 20 years. One day, i was in his work area and saw him trying to clean his spray gun. He points it in his face….as my brain was screaming…nooooo……he pulls the trigger.

Literally, a pure white face and then he pulled off the safety glasses….it took me days to stop laughing. DAYS. Thankfully, it was water based paint and came off quickly, no harm done, but that sight still makes me chuckle.

Universal law….do not point at ones face….

I’ve done it many times when I was in the biz.
Sometimes 10 times in a day. And with way more than 500 lumens sometimes.
Your vision will show a burnt circle that will go away slowly, but surely.
I still have 20/30 vision at 69.
It’s instinct.

I was testing a 44 magnun once, and had a misfire.
Then I turned the gun to my face and started pulling the trigger.
My cousin saved my life. The next round was very much alive.

Cheers.

Oiiiiiii……it doesn’t take much more then a few second for a deadly mistake. It’s not like we don’t know the consequences, it’s just an extra stupid few seconds. Everybody has them. :person_facepalming:

I had some 45 duds and even a ten second count doesn’t relieve the diaper filling. If I reach for the slide will it remove my fingers? Wait one minute…….illogical but one minute……

I smacked myself in the face with an MF01 on turbo :frowning: hooray for 9000 lumens. Had the emitter layout seared in for a few hours.

If you can see the shape for a long time it means the rod cells in the retina got damaged, it is similar to the tinnitus effect with hearing when you listen to something too loud.
And like hearing the body can’t repair it.

I have accidentally fired over 20,000 lumens at point black into my own eyes. Sure sets ya back, man, you’d think I’d have learned by now…

Maybe it wasn’t hours; probably exaggerating a fair bit. But definitely felt like it.

It was an accident, and I’ve learned to be very careful now.

Encouraged to see (no pun intended) that I am not alone and even savvy flashaholics have “shot” themselves.

Having a few lights with a lot more lumens, I plan to exercise caution and not do it again.

Dale - I can’t imagine 20 K! Glad you obviously still see well enough for your flashlight customization wizardry.

I’ve once looked at my Q8 at moonlight mode. Problem is that it still has that firmware bug where it sometimes switches from moonlight to turbo.

Was working on a Bridgelux Vero29 CoB and my shades fell off at full tilt - around 25k lumens… I had the floaties in my eyes for what seemed like an hour. Not fun… 500 is light a glow stick, fading, to my eyes…

Relax, your time just hasn’t come yet :stuck_out_tongue:

Really? What age were you?

Doing this countless times inspired this patch:

Hahahahaha, +1
I hope that OP is totally fine by now. 500 lumens are not joke.
