Nichia 219 or SST-20

Recently acquired a Sofirn C01S with the SST-20 and I gotta say I’m pretty impressed. 100 lumens for over an hour (at least thats the ratings). Beam pattern out of the optic is good enough (I prefer to throwy hotspot with a lot of spill as opposed to a large diffuse hotspot) and may even be ideal for this application. But I gotta wonder how does this SST-20 compare to the Nichia 219? FOr example my Tool Ti AAA Nichia 219BT is absolutely gorgeous but at best offers 80lm and <60min runtime. I have some Malkoff drop ins that seem to reflect this inefficiency as well. Any thoughts? Are we finally seeing high CRI emitters that don’t sacrifice large amounts of efficiency?

The SST-20 95CRI is more efficient than the 219B by about 25%, so about as efficient as the Nichia 219C 90CRI.

However, the main advantage of using the SST-20 is the much higher throw, or candela/lumen.

The SST-20 is actually throwier per lumen by about 30% compared to the XP-L HI, which is very nice.

That CO1S UnAnodised/clear.
is the way to go.

I love the colour it goes when you put a heat torch down the centre.
Or colours if you vary the heat on way down.
Just remember to remove O;’Rings first and wipe grease off threads.
I just stuffed one cause of non removal of grease.
Yuk. Ugly. Throwaway job.

I agree with BlueSword. I have both in various lights. They both serve their purposes very well. Grab which ever one you need with Blue’s info. You can’t go wrong with either one.

Great info. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
