Was going to a family gathering (dinner) today to celebrate end of year. It just occured to me to bring the TOMTOP sk68 clone *just in case the power goes down*
I was not really expecting on that for a 31st of December to be honest but Lo and behold!!
The power went down!!! I was so excited that I ran to my car to pick up my newly bought $7 flashlight!
I entered the house and put it on. A cousin next room said "dont bring the candles, the power is restored"
My uncle who saw that small flashlight said "that is one heck of a flashlight for such a small size"
Another cousin was like "where you bought this? What battery it uses?"
Aunts/other cousins were contemplating the flashlight that I put tailstanding on the table to provide the room light.
They were amazed and I was happy.
Had to share this story with you guys :) Cheers. Thanks for making me buy this baby!
the energizer lithium primaries provide very good runtimes i guess :)
tonight i am gonna have my 10$ Romisen RC-29a with me loaded with freshly charged 14500's. for non-flashaholics the zoomed-in lens (thrower, 350meters) is more impressive than a Quark or Xeno E03 .. at least when you're outdoors. You could have blown away your folks with 14500's -- you missed the chance!! ;)
Li-Ion is the stuff made for flashaholics hehe. perfect food feed. cost 2.00$ apiece (DD, DX) and are protected so nothing can happen :) (if you short them, they die but they dont vent, burn or explode).
Believe me, going from 1.2V (Eneloop) to 1.7V (Energizer) to 4.2V (Trustfire) is major stepup. i luv it.
you're going to be shocked when you try them. I've been using 14500s in a few different EDC lights for a few months and I am still shocked. I keep taking the light out of my pocket and turning it on - as if I suspect it was just a dream every other time and it will look like alkalines the next time I turn it on...
I was at a friends place last night (6th floor apartment) We saw some kids causing havoc about 200m away. I got out my x9. Another person there said you won't see them with that. Turned it on strobe and gave them a flash. They stopped what they were doing and then started running away. The non flashaholic was impressed. We started a discussion about bike lights. He was telling me how he paid $300 for some lights for his bike. I told him he paid too much.
I've only used the TT SK68 clones for a few minutes tops, but I use 14500s in all my SK68s without issue. And I have like a dozen.
If you want protected 14500s, there's really not a whole lot of choice. I use TF flames from DX in most of my EDC lights. DD has them for a little less and I'd be happy to test the couple of sets I've ordered when I get them, but so far I have no idea if they're the real deal as they seem to be stuck somewhere between China and here.
Just gave my tomtom flashlight away to a relative. Seller no longer ships to Mauritius :( I'll wait and order another at a later time or wait for the next 'deal' being reported by members here:)
I am using protected 14500s in my Tomtop sipik 68 clone. When I first got it I didn't have any 14500s, using a fresh AA it pulled 1.3A at the tailcap. 2 days ago I got my first 14500s (ultrafire blue unprotected) and it pulled 1.7A at the tailcap. Big difference and much brighter. Yesterday I got my Trustfire Flame protected 14500s and it pulls 1.85A at the tailcap. Fun little light!! Does get warm pretty fast though. I have not left it on for more than a minute or two.
I bought this light specifically to have a cheap tailstanding AA light for power outages. If you take the lens off and tailstand it on a shelf or table, it fills the room with nice soft light.
