Folomov EDC C2

Ever wanted a tiny little light blaster in a traditional flashlight body? How about one that puts out a warm light to soothe your soul? Enter: Folomov EDC C2, a Nichia E21A LED based flashlight that is smaller than the Olight S1 Baton Mini.

Packaging

I was amused when my package arrived. Amazon shipped the EDC C2 in a gigantic box and to illustrate this, I put an Astrolux MF04 (9.3 inches tall) search light next to the EDC C2 tin box.

Once I got passed the size discrepancy between the Folomov tin box and the shipping box, I continued with the unboxing. The little tin revealed the EDC C2 flashlight, a micro USB cable, two spare o-rings and a manual.

To start using the flashlight, you must first unscrew the tail cap and remove the plastic film.

Body

The knurling on the EDC C2 is minimal.

The extra grip is provided by the attached clip.

The tail is magnetic and is stronger than the magnetic tail cap on the Olight S1 Baton Mini.

LED

Equipped with a Nichia E21A LED, the EDC C2 produces a warm light (3000k) that is very pleasant. On top of that, the light has a very high color rendering index of 98 :-o. HCRI is import for those who process their pictures using Adobe Lightroom, for example. So, if you’re a photographer and you love shooting maco, this light is for you.

The orange peel texture helps soften up the light while the deep reflector adds to the beam distance (max 157 meters). The Olight S1 Baton Mini has a shallow reflector and has a max beam distance of 130, but the Olight one is brighter (max 600 lumens vs 400 lumens).

Battery and charging

Tiny little 14300 battery, about half the size of a CR123 battery.

Built-in charging port (micro USB). Since the capacity is small (250mAh), I don’t mind charging it using its built-in charger.

I threw it into a SkyRC MC3000 charger to demonstrate that it fits standard chargers.

UI

The Folomov EDC C2 has two modes: Tactical and Illumination mode. By default, it is in Illumination mode. To activate the Tactical mode, press the switch 7 times. The light will flash 6 times to confirm the switch.

Tactical mode:

ON:

Option 1. Press and hold the side switch to access to Turbo temporarily. The light will be off if you release your finger.

Option 2. Quickly press the side switch once to access to Turbo consecutively.

Option 3. Quickly press the side switch twice to access to Strobe.

OFF:

Quickly press the side switch .

Illumination mode:

ON:

Option 1. Press and hold the side switch for 0.5s to access moonlight level. Then press side switch quickly to access the memorized level.

Option 2. Quick press the side switch to access to a memorized level. When at a memorized mode, quick press the side switch to cycle through low–medium–high (repeats) and choose the level you need.

Turbo, strobe, SOS, beacon

1. Activation: No matter the light is on or off, press side switch twice to access turbo.

2. When in turbo mode, press side switch twice to cycle turbo →strobe→sos→beacon (repeats).

OFF: Press side switch for 0.5s to turn off the light. illumination mode.

Conclusion

A tiny flashlight with warm light, high color rendition (HCRI), water proof, highly portable and bright, I can wholeheartedly recommend this light . However, because it is tiny, battery capacity could be limiting for some and on turbo, it does heat up quickly.

Thanks for the great review.

My EDC C2 has a different mode sequence than you describe:
Mine is: L-M-H-L-M-H, not the L-M-H-M-L that your review and the literature describe.

I really like this little light, but I’ll likely add some DC-Fix to soften the hot spot for closer use.

These things are so light, that they’re barely noticed on a hat brim.

I wrote the review quickly. It's full of typos :D and one error that you found: it is indeed L-M-H (repeat). Thanks!

Thanks for the review.
Looks like an interesting flashlight, but the freaky size battery with only 250 mah kills it for my use.

How many battery makers are going to concentrate on making a better 14300 battery?
Close, but no guitar.

what a fantastic little light at a good price, good UI, etc. but agreed the battery kills the deal for me too. And I still may

• (great Bob Seger tune Muto!)

I initially hesitated to buy this light over concern for the battery capacity.

I like the other features of the light so much that I no longer care much about the battery capacity. I’ve always got a larger light on me as well.

Amazon US has a 10% coupon making this light about $31.
No code, just look for the coupon checkbox below the price.
.

I ran the included 14300 cell through my Opus charger and measured 280mAh using the 300mA discharge rate.

What a cute little thing.

280mAh? Hmm…
Can’t it run on a CR2 Lithium primary?

Maybe yes if they are similar in size? The 14300 is 3.7V.

Sweet! I like it better when companies underrate their wares.

have one of these and love it…fits perfect in the “little” pocket on jeans

It's got a good throw for such a little thing :D
