Small item received I didn't order

I vaguely remember another thread on this but can not find it with the search.

Went to the mailbox just now and there is this small padded packet from china.
Now we have all had that package show up that you forgot you ordered, but this was a small “Water Quality Tester” that’s the only english on the crumpled cardboard box.
It is very small , they show a diagram of holding it under a wall faucet like you would have outside for the garden hose.
Apparently the fibers change color to show good or bad.

Needless to say I did not order this and because it is an untracked package have no way to see it’s origin.
Says under description of contents;
Water Filter .05 kg value USD $1

So, do the sellers somehow make money by sending out some small items?
Stumped by it.

Anyone else get weird free things like this?
Thanks!
Keith

Maybe it’s one of those craptastic freebie grab bag prizes? You ordered at the right time so they sent it whether you really wanted one or not?

Bonus.
Just use it and keep eyes open for another hey.

My first order from WISH.com came in and a month later they sent me a phone case. Checked my account to make sure they didn’t charge me and there was nothing there. Thought it was weird because it didn’t fit any phone I own. Value was also $1 USD.

Not from Choina, but I did get some unordered goodies from Amazon, once. Rather nice set of replaceable-filter dust-masks that actually came in quite handy. And if I ever want to get into industrial dance, well, now I can.

There’s some kind of scam on Amazon where you get little free craps, and They™ use the order to bolster their ratings. I don’t quite understand how it works, but hey, I’ll take more free crap as long as it doesn’t cost me.

In all these years I received only one time an item without having ordered or payed for it.
It was a craptastic 3xAAA flashlight. With threads in only one place, all the rest was press-fit.
I decided to disassemble it, and keep the re-usable parts in my spare-box.
Turned out that there was just one part that fitted the description: a green switch cover.

I have once received a couple of fidget spinners from Banggood i did not order.
I gave all info to Banggood, they said that it was my order with flashlight parts, (which i received a couple of days later.)

Apparently they both carried the same order numbers.

So i told Banggood that is was not, but they did not respond.
I gave up and my kids were happy with it.

I received four packages from Amazon about two years ago. The first one had a really nice backpack for a woman and a pretty nice iPad cover. My wife opened it and thought I bought it for her for Sweetest Day. The rest were all garbage, the second a cheap knit hat, the third a cheap pair of shoes for a toddler and fourth was a package of “nipple pasties”
As I was watching the local news a couple of weeks later, here to find out they did a story on this and seems the people who sell this crap do this so that they can post “good” reviews in your name for there products.

Had a pretty big (40-odd cm tall, pretty good quality) stuffed totoro toy show up one day in a package from china. Had to double check that i hadn’t accidentally ordered it, and the wife didn’t either. Was strange, but it’s a decent stuffed toy that has joined my wife/sons collection haha

I’m assuming no relation:

That is heavy!

Wish I had that talent.
Sorry, no relation.
The inspiration for my screen name goes back to around 1991.
Thanks for the cool video.

Later,
Keith

My freight forwarder received one at my account address from somewhere in the Philippines. I believe they got the address from one of the Chinese websites data leaks. I sent them this link:
