Question on Convoy T2: doesn't work when caps are screwed in

Hi, I haven’t been too active on the forum recently, but I have been enjoying flashlights!
I’m looking for a new AA or AAA EDC light, and just received a Convoy T2 from Simon. I like the solid build and stiff recessed switch that won’t turn on in my pocket, and the tint looks great. However, the light doesn’t work when both head and tailcaps are screwed in all the way. It works fine if the head is loosened enough that the O-ring is visible, but stops working as I tighten the head over the O-ring. Oddly, it also works if I tighten the head but slightly loosen the tail cap.
Same results with a few different brands of NiMH AA’s.

There is a small spring at the + end in the head, along with a few other exposed circuit board components nearby. (Tail has a relatively large spring.) My suspicion is that there’s a short or other problem in the head when that little spring gets compressed too much?

Has anyone else noticed this with a T2, and if so, is there a relatively easy fix? Or did I just get a bad sample?
Thanks in advance!

Have you checked it the retaining rings both on the driver and the tailcap are well screwed and if both driver and switch are in place?
Mine never gave me problems when it was stock!

Thanks for the quick reply! I didn’t have much time to play with it this morning, but I did prod enough to know that the retaining rings were not loose. I unscrewed everything I could without tools, and verified there was no visible or tactile play in any of the components. I’ll try dissembling a little more and tightening with tools tonight!

The rings could be in place, but maybe there is something on the driver or the switch that are misplaced.
If not this, maybe something on the reflector side, making some kind of short with the LED plate!
Or, as you said there may be a short due to the spring…
