UF H3 impressions and question

I posted this under another thread, but it didn't make it to the front page. I was worried it wouldn't get seen, so I reposted here. Hope that is OK. On to my message....

Hi all

I finally got my UF H3 headlamp and am looking forward to breaking it in tonight on a canoe cruz around the lake. It took me a second to figure out the ramping UI, but not too tough. Everything about the light feels fit and smooth and I love the magnetic base.

The brightness of the light was less than I was expecting, but maybe I was expecting too much in the way of brightness. I was thinking it might be similar in brightness to my Tomtop SK 68 (flood mode) with a 14500 battery, but it is quite a bit dimmer than that at its highest setting. Has that been everyone elses experience. For close up work, I imagine it will be great, but I wish it had just a touch more throwy brightness. I guess the big draw of this light is its runtime.

One other item I had a quaestion about is the headband. I am not sure if I am putting it in right. It seems like I have to put the band way back on my head to get the light to shine where I want it. Maybe I have it on wrong or something. Anyone got a photo of this light being worn, so I can see how it's done.

All in all I think I will like this light and am looking forward to the trial run this evening. Thanks.

Sean

You can rotate the light in the headband, no need to move the head band around. Some people remove the clip so they can rotate it easier.

There is almost no throw, it is all flood all the time. I've taken mine camping and sometimes I would have liked to have some more throw but it is my go to headlamp for sure.

I just wish they weren't so expensive!

Wow its not as bright as the SK68 with a 14500? I have an SK68 with a 14500 and also have a UF-H3 on order. I guess if the UF-H3 floods like it says it does, it might not seem as bright as the SK-68 if the SK-68 throws more. What does the UF-H3 draw for current at the tailcap on high? What battery are you using?

On a side note, what does your SK-68 draw for current at the tailcap?

I am using Trustfire flames with both the SK68 and UF H3. 14500 and 18650.

As for the headband, I am still not sure. It seems that once it is in the loops it is on the side of my head, the light is parallel with the floor and the emiter is aiming towards the floor. I then push the band back on my head some so that it angles light in front of me a bit.

I have never used a headlamp before and maybe this is how it is used. I just wanted to make sure that there is not a better way. Thanks.

I have not used one yet either, but I think the light goes on the front of your head and then you can rotate the light in the rubber bands to have the beam closer or further from you.

Ah ha. On the front of your head. I feel a little silly. I wonder why I thought it went on the side. I think I must have seen it that way in Mission Impossible or something. Thanks for the help.

Sean

Yeah, you wear it like this. Not me by the way.

Is that picture an H3 or H2?

I'm pretty sure it's a Zebralight. I was just trying show how it should be worn.

That's what I needed. Thank you all for the responses and lack of snickering. lol.

Sean

You cannot compare a thrower (sk68) and a closeup work flooder(H3). Different light, purpose, and characteristics.

The SK-68 in flood certainly isn't a thrower

The sk68 throws a lot more than the H3. The H3 doesn't even throw at all. It's meant for close up work and long runtime. The sk68 is a flood to throw light. It has a usable flood yes but not as wide as the H3. The H3 also beats the sk68 in runtime by far.

I suggest you get one, or any light of similar design. You'll love it.

Yeah I already have an SK68 running on a 14500, and my UF-H3 should be arriving any day now.

Where did you get yours?
Careful in putting protected batteries in it. The tail cap spring scratches and may eat up the negative side of the battery. Unprotected ones have no problem.

I am not sure which light you are referring too? I got my SK68 clone from Tomtop. I am impressed with the quality for the $6.16 shipped price. Running trustfire flame protected it draws 1.85A from the tailcap. Pretty bright.

I ordered the UF-H3 from DD for $23 shipped. I plan to run a trustfire flame protected 3000mah 18650. In case this is the light you are referring to, I do have unprotected ultrafire 18650s, but am leary about having an unprotected Li-ion cell discharging right next to my face. Especially an ultrafire cell.
