Q8 O-ring from body to head snags easily

My bulletproof Q8 has one problem.... the O-ring where the body meets the head always seems to snag easily as I always mechanically lock it out when not in use. Any way around this? It is always lubed but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

It’s actually using a lot of lube that is both an issue, and a blessing.

If you put some lube on the O-ring, it may have swelled up. If tightened properly, it can provide bulletproof waterproofing.

Otherwise, it can be hard to screw in.

I never thought of that, thanks. That o-ring is so thin but it makes sense that it swelled up. Will try a new ring with just a pinch of lube and see how that goes.

Both of my FF lights do this (E07 & E01) when they have too much lube on the threads. I think it’s because the O ring groove isn’t cut deep enough so when everything’s too lubricated it just pushes the o-ring out of place instead of sliding over it and sealing.

First thing I’d try would be to take the O ring off, wipe it dry, clean the threads off then reinstall and reapply a conservative amount of your preferred lube to see if that helps.
When it’s all clean carefully run your finger over/around the threads to feel for a burr.

Thanks. I do have a habit of being a little over generous with the lube on my flashlights, so I can see for sure that would do it.

My in-use one always “sticks its tongue out” whenever I’d try tightening it. I’d have to “massage” the ring all the way around every half-turn or so, just to keep the ring from getting snipped on tightening. Royal pain in the ass.

That’s why I not-quite-shelved it and am keeping my DC7 (usb chargeable) at the ready. Don’t have to open it for anything.

You mean your Q8? Did you over lube the ring too?

Yeh. Was nicely lubed right out, but added some YEZL to it just to be sure.

The longer and thinner the rings, the “stretchier” they are, and that much more likely to pull out of the groove just by friction dragging it along, lube or no.

That only happens to me when i tighten it too fast, try slowing down?

Mine too. Slowly tightening it helps.

Yes, if I tighten it really really slow it does not slip out.

Ummm, a slow quarter-turn, run finger around periphery a coupla times, another slow quarter-turn, another finger-run around the periphery, another slow quarter-turn, another… isn’t slow enough?

I tighten it slower so I don't have to run my finger around it and get lube on it, but I will still clean it all up and see if it works better with the ring just slightly greased.

My 1st Q8 ring was bunching up and poking out. Tried to clean up and re-lube. In the end, tossed it and used the spare. All hunky dory

I also experience this, I think more on the BLF Q8 than the Sofirn Q8…

It’s a bit annoying, but I haven’t been using them that much…

Sorry for digging up an old thread but my Q8 finally chewed up the head main o’ring for the last time and I need to get a few replacement, where can these be ordered?

Thanks!

You can always flick Sofirn a message since they sell both versions
