Wonder if we can shave 3mm off the head to better fit 20mm optics (11mm height)

Received a tracking number from Neal. Will probably buy another when available in raw aluminum with the stainless bezel soon.

FWIW, I opted for free shipping with my FW1A order, and the tracking number was received via email on Wed, Sep 18, 2019 2:59 am EDT.  If I like the light, I may buy another in blue or non-anodized - if/when this option become available. Thanks Neal - good job on getting this out!

Update - apparently my FW1A is already in the States:

Origin:
2019-09-18 07:06, FREMONT, CA 94538, Picked Up by Shipping Partner, USPS Awaiting Item -> Your item was picked up by a shipping partner at 7:06 am on September 18, 2019 in FREMONT, CA 94538. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date.

Varbos if you’re going to get silly you might as well mention the one variant I’d actually be interested in – FW1A GT, a D1S sized (or slightly larger) thrower with a tail switch.
…but for now let’s stick with what we have. Hopefully I can get my hands on an FW1A soon!

Mine looked like that as well, and then magically showed up at my home a few days later.

Anyone know what smooth reflector would fit this? Going to build osram variants.

If assume the same as the FW3A, but I’ll check eventually.

Looking forward to see them Smile
Had the same idea some days ago! But I guess I will only get one of these in case the Osram doesn’t get “puff” on max Wink

I also thought of making the FW1A into an FW3A, with a copper pill below the MCPCB, instead of the configuration 1 led + reflector. It would have more mass to absorb heat from a triple Big Smile Evil

More mass sure, but also a much worse thermal path. I don’t really think that’s a great idea.

Ahah, I would squeeze a copper/brass rod in the head to “make contact” Evil
Although they are a different flashlights, I’ve done it with Jaxman E3, Sofirn SP32 and OTR M1 (all turned into triples), and the heating path is not bad. Maybe not perfect, but not bad too!
But I do get your point Thumbs Up

I’d imagine the copper heatsink on the FW3TC does a better job, and the FW3C almost definitely does.

people have been using spacers forever and the thermal transfer is very good, even with spacers that only contact on the bottom and not the sides.

That’s for the FW3A. We want it in the FW1A. I also what a black/white flat option
