EU PLUG Wall Charger Dual USB ZYBB-1516







Official specifications:

  • input voltage range: 100-240V

  • the output current: 2300mA (Charger list 2.1A)

I got it from ebay dealer: bigmall2016







It arrived in a plastic bag in a plastic envelope.























Measurements

  • Power consumption when idle is 0.11 Watt

  • USB output #1 is coded as DCP, Samsung

  • USB output #2 is coded as Apple 1A

  • The two USB outputs are in parallel.

  • Weight: 32.5g

  • Size: 73.2 x 39.8 x 25.0mm




The charger can deliver 2.5A before the output voltage start dropping.



The other output is the same



And also when used together.



At 120VAC the output current is only 1.8A



For a load test I used 5V 2.1A load for one hour, it worked fine.
The temperature photos below are taken between 30 minutes and 60 minutes into the one hour test.



M1: 80.3°C, HS1: 84.4°C
But the charge got rather hot. HS1 is the transformer.



HS1: 80.4°C
HS1 is the rectifier diode.



M1: 74.9°C, HS1: 76.7°C



M1: 66.2°C, HS1: 66.6°C



HS1: 92.7°C



At 0.5A the noise is 121mV rms and 1559mVpp.



At 1A the noise is 158mV rms and 1789mVpp.



At 2A the noise is 227mV rms and 2900mVpp, output noise is very bad.



Tear down



Mounting the top in my vice and giving the bottom a whack with my mallet was enough to open it, a spudger would also have done it.



On this side is the fusible input resistor, the bridge rectifier, the switcher, a fake safety capacitor, the opto feedback and a big diode.







This side is mostly resistors and capacitors, but there is also a diode and the reference (431).





The distance between mains and low volt side is supposed to be above 6mm, here it is around 1mm near the opto coupler.

The charger passed the 2830 volt test, but failed the 4242 volt test between mains and low volt side, this makes it unsafe for 230VAC countries.



Conclusion

With a fake safety capacitor and low creepage distance the charger has bad safety, it do also have a lot of noise on the output.
Stay away from this charger.
