Looking For Digital Multimeter Which Has An On/Off Light

Hi guys I am looking for a new multimetr, only thing it has to have is A, a backlight that can have its time out over ridden, like the Fluke 17B+.

And B, not to expensive £50 to £60 GBP, $40 to $50 USD.

I’ll suggest spending a little more and getting a Fluke.
The Fluke 107 has the auto off backlight disable feature. Ebay about $80 new. The 116 has this also and used around $60.
I saw the 17B+ for $112 new on ebay.
I just think spending a little extra and getting a quality product that will last for years and years is worth the extra in the long run. Wink

Yes I agree with mod007.

However, if you still don’t have the money even for a used fluke, I would recommend doing multiple things:

1. Build your own 16/14AWG leads with nickels plated lugs and gold plated leads/alligator clips.
You can use nickel plated leads/alligator clips, but you’ll have to clean them a bit.

2. Replace the internal fuses with quality ones.

3. For current measurement, use a shunt rather than your own multimeter. 10mOhm is good for most measurements, while 1mOhm is great for high current measurements.
I don’t depend on my multimeter for current measurements above 3A.

4. Get yourself a 4x AA multimeter. They have much better runtime, and since they don’t use 9V batteries, they are actually cheaper. Always use NiMH AAs.

5. After all this is done, watch some HKJ’s reviews.

AAs leak though, and the current drain is low enough that they might keep the meter going, even though they are 95% dead and already leaking

Was never speaking about alkaline cells.

Never forget that I’m not a proponent of alkaline cells
