Thrunite TN42 - question for owners

I’ve been eyeing the TN42 since it was released. Even after getting one of the first BLF GT groupbuy lights, the TN42 was still calling me.

I recently got a deal on a used one in great shape, and it’s awesome.

I noticed that the engraved logo doesn’t seem to match any other photos I’ve seen. I spent some time looking on Google Images and didn’t find any with a mixed-case ‘ThruNite’ marking like mine.

Here is my light, with a mixed-case ‘ThruNite’ and no ® mark:

Selfbuilt’s sample from late 2016 has an all upper-case ‘THRUNITE’ and the ® mark, but the engravings are down on the head rather than higher up on the bezel:

Zeroair’s more recent sample has the markings on the bezel with the ® mark, like most I’ve seen:

Oddly, the photos on Thrunite’s site and other seller’s sites show no markings:

To be clear, I’m very pleased with my TN42. The driver and other innards look just like other photos I’ve found, the reflector is flawless, and it certainly performs as I expected

I’m just curious if anyone else has a mixed-case ‘ThruNite’ logo like mine.

I have the TN40S model. It also has the “mixed” ThruNite engraving.

Interesting! How old is your TN40S? I didn’t think to look at other Thrunite models.

I found a photo of a TN40S with mixed-case logo from this post by BLF member komeko:

I got mine less than a year ago, they probably updated the logo design.

Thanks, Dioda!

The previous owner just told me that my TN42 was purchased new in February 2019.

I guess this mixed-case ‘ThruNite’ marking is the new style!

I believe this was from the first production batch- yours is the same as Selfbuilts example. His review was dated 11 august 2016.

For the record my TN42 is like Zeroair,s sample.

Thanks KB, but we’re talking about the other side of the bezel. Silly

I’ll bet yours all have upper-case THRUNITE ®.

Do you still use yours much? I know you’ve had a ton of them, most with heavy mods.

I’ve got a 4000K XHP35 HI and a Lexel driver running Andúril on the way for mine. Party

Hi, Old Mate!

Check the pics in my first post again. My light’s markings are very different from selfbuilt’s.

It seems mine is from a pretty recent run, and they’re using upper and lowercase for the ThruNite name.

Ah yes i see your mixed upper/lower case letters now.

Checking the serial numbers with selfbuilts and Kawiboys start with BM

Mine starts with BN

And yours and Zeroair,s start with BO- so i think you are correct.

So maybe serial numbers denote

BM 2016

BN 2017

BO 2018

BP 2019?

Just a guess.

Edit again – i just noticed the new models TC 15 and T1 haved mixed case and BP serial no.

Correct…..

Use it mostly during the winter after deer season Jan Feb March, weekend nights on the farm in Armada when we hunt coyotes…it don’t bother them much, they are use to vehicle traffic from the main road, headlights crossing the fields… I scan between mine and my brothers blind some 600yds to 800yds on a diagonal across another open field…try to catch eyes/motion when they cross between the heavy woods fence row’s. My NV scope is good to about 200yds…. if they are heading towards my brothers blind, I radio him a heads up. It’s something to do in the winter…. they start raiding the farms in packs…

The TN42 is on my wish list for quite some time. However it seems almost impossible to find it on some really attractive sale. At HKE its been for long time for like 200 bucks, which is kind on the expensive side.
