Interest in an EDC light, 18350, size of Acebeam TK16, Anduril?

I wonder if there is interest in a small EDC light, the diameter and length of the Acebeam TK16, 18350, Anduril, either single or triple with a TIR?

I have no idea how to move this forward, but this would be an ideal EDC light for me.

Wait for FW3A 18350 tube

The tk16 is interesting. Nice look, but 16340 = no thanks.

Actually, I’m most interested in a single emitter edc. I regularly have a need for more throw than I get out of a triple. I’m building a small 18350 Amutorch AX2? into an edc running Anduril. I like the side switch for my use better than the rear, so it’s more appealing than the FW1A. I have the FW3A, and while it’s a great little light, even with an 18350 tube it’s not going to replace the EC11 that’s been in use for years. Not sure what I’ll do when that bites the dust.

I’ve been wanting something like an Olight S-Mini, but with Anduril and a neutral white LED and preferably also 18350 cell since those can hold a lot more juice than 16340 without being significantly larger.

Maybe eventually it can happen.

To make it work though, it would still need to be as small as possible. The whole point of the S-Mini is that it’s “mini”.

Cereal_killer has built an Utorch S1 Mini with Anduril driver (see my WTB thread). All that’s missing is a TIR optics. Really small, but just 16340, of course.

I thought the Thrunite T1 was going to be a winner in the compact “mini” 18350 category. But the UI is terrible, and I regret getting it. I might look at swapping a new driver into that one, but it’s xhp 50 and onboard charging (which is beyond my current ability to mod and retain).

I like the idea of an 18350 s-mini.

closer thing I know is the D4V2 with 18350 tube, it’s really small

Currently carrying a TK16, but also used to the FW3A, I would say that these kind of ideas would have “legs to walk”.

I am currently waiting for the release of the FW3A 18350 tube, and also will get a D4V2 + 18350 tube. BUT, having that kind of technology (meaning Anduril) in a single LED 16340 or even 14500 (both thinner than an 18350) would be a nice shot.

The smaller, the better, side or tail e-switches :+1:

I have interest. Something with a side switch and deep carry clip.

You and I are pretty much on the same page, ToyKeeper. Small as possible, 18350, Anduril.

Neutral (4500k-ish) High CRI.

Let me know what I can do to help make this a reality.

Unno, I was happy with an orange (fake “copper”) S2+ with shorty tube, 60° TIR lens, and WW LED (think it was a 7A).

Kinda retro with the WW light and “copper” color…

No fancy UI, just on’n’off.

FET plus 7135 drivers simply waste too much energy and generate too much heat, and should not be used in such a small form factor.

For something this size, I’d ideally want to use just 7135 chips, or some sort of linear FET like the led4power drivers, or something otherwise designed for stable and sustainable output instead of maximum lumens. TBH, I’d be fine with just a single 7135 chip and nothing else, because I almost never want more than 130 lumens from a tiny light. But it could definitely do more than that if there’s room on the driver for other parts.

I’d be okay with a FET+1, but the FET part would be mostly irrelevant to me.

Lumintop EDC-18 with short tube

It’s a bit large though. The full-sized one is 94mm x 28mm, and 18350 is 30mm shorter… so the shorty version would probably be 64mm x 28mm.

The S-Mini is 55mm x 21mm. Expand it to fit an 18350 cell, and it could probably be 56 or 57mm long, and 22 or 23mm in diameter.

So I think the target size is about 57mm x 22mm.

In terms of volume, the EDC18 shorty appears to be about 166% to 182% as big as an 18350 S-Mini would be.

The Fenix E16 is shorter and slimmer: 51mm x 19 mm. The TIR is particularly attractive. Might Fenix be open to design input?

Hmm… I’m not sure Fenix really cares much about a small forum of enthusiasts. They’ve got items carried in retail chain stores, so the scale of what we do here might not be big enough to be worthwhile.

I could be wrong though. I haven’t actually tried to get Fenix involved in any projects.

Totally agree with something in the formfactor of an S-mini/S1R size would be great.

My 5000k LH351D modded S1R II gets as much pocket time as the FW3A due to it’s size alone; if it had Anduril as well I’d never use anything else. I’m not against the 16340 size either for a micro EDC light if it ran Anduril and was regulated up to 2-3A for a single emitter TIR light.

Perhaps the 18350 FW3A tube will solve the lack of a micro formfactor, high function light? The D4 shorty is great, but it’s pretty chonky. I’m always blown away by the size of the “full” FW3A, easily one of the nicest carrying 18650 EDC lights out there, so the shorty tube could totally improve on that.

I carry an S1R II in my pocket and an IYP365 Nichia on my Leatherman pouch. I hate that I have to carry 2 lights - one for when I actually need to see detail and another for when I just need to see. An 18350 light 57mm x 23mm with SST-20 and Andruil would be EPIC!

I’ve been using an FW3A with the 18350 tube for a bit over a month, and while it’s a much better EDC than the full size FW3A, it’s still pretty chunky, mostly because of the diameter. There’s an opportunity to do a smaller diameter triple or single emitter that’s the size of a TK16, and I think it would be a fantastic option.
