Metal tailswitch for convoy s2+

I have a metal clicky switch that I ordered from Ali Express, but my tailcap is a rubber switch. Anyone know of an adapter ring for the metal clicky? Do I need to order a special tailcap? Sorry for the noob question and thanks in advance.

As far as I know, the metal switch only fits the metal switch versions of the S2. It’s not meant to convert the rubber switch to a metal one. The hole in the tail cap is different.

I was hoping the inner ring that holds the switch in was threaded on the inside, because the id of the ring and the od of the switch are almost identical. It's totally doable, I actually may try to tap it myself. Thanks for the reply.

The metal switch has a thread on it to screw into the tailcap. Unless you have the tailcap with this thread the metal switch is no good to you.

Do you know if you can order the tailcap by itself?

PM Simon, he’s sold me a few parts for lights that aren’t listed on his Aliexpress site.

Here is a tap and drill if you want to tap it.
M13 x 0.75 is the size you want

thanks for sharing all of this, I will attempt to tap my grey S2+

If you have a local machine shop around—I’m sure they’d tap that tail for hardly anything —I know my friends shop would —-he removed two broke off scope screws for $20

Glue is your friend
some decent 2 component glue can fix the missing threads

so basically drill out the hole then use glue carefully

Isn’t the hole for the rubber boot wider than the one for the metal switch?

Yes this is correct^. It cannot be tapped as the hole for the rubber switch is wider than the tapped hole for the metal button.

A little while ago I tried to go the other way and convert a metal button tailcap to rubber switch style by drilling out the hole larger to accommodate the rubber boot, but even this didn’t work as there were other differences in the design of the tailcap preventing the rubber switch from fitting correctly.

Best to just stick with factory setup as they cannot be easily converted.

Not sure if anyone can help with this. I bought a (nother) S2+ with a Nichia 519A from the Convoy Store. Pic shows a rubber tailcap, so easy enough for me to change obver to a metal or lighted switch.

But the light that arrived has a small black plastic clicky switch that sits up on a raised lip of aluminium, part of the milled tailcap. My other S2 doesn’t have this lip, can I change out the switch or am I stuck with the black plastic?

Apologies for waking this old thread, a search for S2 tailcaps threw up a ton of results.

Hopefully the pics show what I mean.

The Black and Silver buttons are interchangeable.

However if your goal is an illuminated switch the Silver one will only allow some light to pass between the center button(see picture below) and the outer part of the button.

You’d need to order this kit and not use the clear plastic piece that fills the gap on the silicone rubber button tailcaps:
(Stainless steel button + light switch) kit for replacing silicone buttons, suitable for (gray and black S2+) / C8 /C8+/S21A

Note: The Black and Silver buttons are threaded and screw into the tailcap.
You’ll need a thin pair of pliers(I used Duck Bill Pliers) and something to prevent scratches.

Perfect reply, many thanks to you for taking the time to post pics. My lighted switches came with the button screwed into the plastic already, so I hadn’t noticed the threading because they fitted the wider rubber cap milling without adjustment.

I’ve just unscrewed one and it’ll fit perfectly. :+1:

Glad to help!

Edit: If you need the illuminated tailcap to be a bit brighter you can add a bleeder resistor to the driver.
