What about XP-E2 Photo Red (660 nm)? If the photos are accurate, it has the same dome size as XP-E2 Red (625 nm).

As far as I know, looks like a C01S with emitter swap. It should be straight away compatible unless the emitter Vf is too low. According to Cree XP-E2 datasheet Vf for photo red at 350mA is 2.05V. Since the C01S drives the SST-20 at ≈300mA on high, doability will depend on the C01S driver's minimum input/output voltage difference. In low mode the XP-E2 photo/XP-G3 deep red will have a very low Vf, but there's a super pretty good chance it'll handle it, at least if Sofirn did their homework well with the C01S driver.

Sharing localized AliExpress links is bad: when a user clicks or taps on a localized link their system automatically sets that locale, most often forcing the user to tap or click on the locale drop down or global site link to return to their localized site of choice or to the global site. Your carelessness is thus detrimental. I understand AliExpress should fix their site behaviour, but while this happens please be mindful and only share global website (english) links. Turning a localized link into a global link is super easy, just change the locale letters in the url for wwwExample:

https://es.aliexpress.com/item/bla-bla-bla.html turns into https://www.aliexpress.com/item/bla-bla-bla.html. Thumbs Up

I'm afraid that XP-E2 photo red (I guess it's being called "deep red", too now) could look too dim/too dark as the output is less than XP-G3 deep red. Please bear in mind that 660nm is closer to the edge of the human eye's visible spectrum, i.e. 100 lumens of deep red (660nm) light will appear significantly less bright than 100 lumens of red (625nm) as the eye's reception is less sensitive on 660nm. My idea was to compensate the lack of visibility by more output using the (more efficient) XP-G3 deep red. But as long as we do not know how much room is left underneath the C01S optic and how the beam shape looks like, it's impossible to commit to XP-G3 deep red.

If I'm not mistaken, Sofirn would like to keep this emitter swap as simple as possible, meaning that it's not their intention to develop/source a whole new optic for the C01S host to make it compatible with larger-sized domed LEDs.

Sofirn told me the C01S' SST-20 will be driven at 350mA on high. I hope their engineer will soon be able to give us some testing results. I have asked them to source some XP-E2 deep red and XP-G3 deep red LEDs for testing them with the C01S.

For the time being, I will count everyone's interest regardless of the preferred tint (625nm / 660nm). The odds are good that we will end up with XP-E2 red only but I try my best to ask Sofirn giving the deep red tint a chance. I hope they'll be able to do that with regard to the fact that they are more than busy preparing 11.11. sales and having a tight production schedule.

Yes – interested — not sure which flavor of Red LED I’d prefer — probably the one with more eye-sensitivity, but i can’t make an informed decision yet.

PARTICULARLY (and only) with a red / deep red body.

Interested only in deep red.
620nm is to rosy-orange-ish for me instead of red.
There are already a lot of 620nm lights on the market and sourcing 620nm XP-E2’s in single quantities is super easy so having a photo red led would make this light stand out.

Interest list is live, see OP. I hope I have counted everything correctly. In case of any corrections, let me know please. So far, we have gathered 54 pcs already. Sofirn will try to source some XP-G3 and XP-E2 deep red for further testing. I keep you updated.

Cheers, Thomas

I am absolutely interested in such a light (esp. useful for astrophotography, where red doesn’t inflict with night vision and the brightness should not be high, and the light is small enough to hold it with the mouth as headlamps are often uncomfortable and interferer with telescope viewing)

I am also very interested in the XP-G3 Version as it is deep red. I would pay the higher price (as 625nm vs. 660nm do make a difference)

Thanks,
olles

Nice to see some interested members from TLF, too. Smile

Sofirn will try to use the red anodization, maybe we even get to see a "deep red matte" anodization. Mode order LOW - HIGH is also agreed. Thumbs Up

Yes, I would also prefer some darker red with a matte finish as red is used for C01S already. Let's see what Sofirn can do about it. Another option could be "no ano" clear aluminum but I think this would interfere too much with the C01S "BLF edition".

Interfere? It would likely be the other way around. The C01S “BLF edition” is rarely available, it may have to do with Sofirn ordering scarce and small batches of un-anodized C01S bodies. If we give 'em more incentive to order un-anodized bodies we would have both red and 4000K versions more readily available.

Interesting point Barkuti. You could be right about that since Sofirn is waiting for their C01S stock to deplete, so that the next batch can be offered with most wanted features (low-high mode order, for instance). I don't know what they are up to next but this could be a great opportunity for joint activities, i.e. reconsider the entire C01S production schedule and integrate the red so called C01R into the whole sales strategy. I'll check with them tomorrow again.

TLF member oOFOXOo from Austria did a great job and put a new tint look onto the illustration, see picture in the OP. This is „Crimson Red“ (RAL color code 030 30 40).
