ROT66 isn't getting bright enough - user error?

I’m not that familiar with flashlights, so this is probably a user error.
I have a gen 1 ROT66 with 219b’s. It isn’t getting bright enough. It max’s out about as bright as my cellphone.

From off, I double click (should go into turbo I think), and the light goes to the max setting, but it is as dim as my phone. From on, I ramp, and the light ramps up/down but still does not get very bright. I can switch between smooth/stepped ramp.

I’m pretty sure that I successfully navigated the UI, and have tried changing the floor & ceiling in the ramp modes. I have also checked the battery & temp in the UI, it seems accurate.

I don’t remember what happened to change things, it’s been sitting in a bag for awhile. I thought it used to be nearly as bright as my BLF Q8. I may have been pressing buttons and unknowingly changed a setting.

AFAIK it uses Anduril UI. That’s what’s on the manual that came with it.

Using Samsung 30Q batteries, fully charged.

I don’t think I’m in muggle mode- when I switch between muggle/non-muggle the double click turbo function seems to respond to the change.

I’m probably missing something. I don’t think Anduril can be factory reset or I’d try that.

It may have had some settings changed, or could potentially have poor contact with the battery carrier, or perhaps the LEDs are toward the end of their life if they’ve been used at turbo a lot.

If it’s the settings, try a double click while it’s already on. That should go to turbo. Double click from off only goes up as high as the user-configured ceiling level, which is usually not full power.

About the battery carrier, it may help to clean the contacts and put something in the tailcap to increase the amount of pressure holding the carrier against the driver. People have reported output dropping over time due to reduced pressure.

If it’s the LEDs themselves, not much you can do about it. Nichia 219B isn’t really great at dealing with the amount of power this light can push through them on turbo.

Thank you, I don’t think the light’s been used for more than 5-10 minutes… what’s the life expectancy of 219b’s? I didn’t realize turbo would hurt emitters.

I tried double clicking to get into turbo (from on), and it still doesn’t get bright enough.

I think I have a contact issue, it gets brighter/dimmer depending on how tight the body & back are, and gets brighter/dimmer when smacked with my palm. Sometimes it gets brighter when the body is loosened, sometimes dimmer.

On turbo, the light barely gets warm.

I guess I’ll look into Fireflies warranty support.

On the other hand, the BLF Q8 has been great(:

Gen 1 or 2?

Gen 1, purchased ~April-May of 2019

My guess. AKA the puffy unicorn sticker fix.

Yeah, that’s the reason why they redesigned it for version 2.

You may be able to fix it by putting some sort of spacer inside between the tailcap and the battery carrier. It may also help to tighten the battery carrier itself, since I’ve heard the screws can get a bit loose and cause reduced brightness.
